Lamb Price to Rocket ?

Well folks are you ready for the price of lamb to go through the roof ?
With the reports of the virus that is causing 1000`s of lambs to be born dead or deformed i can see the price soon going into big time !
This means no new stock for breeding next season and god help us this could occur again next lambing season
Was only about 2-3 years ago i could buy a whole shoulder of lamb for £6 and get 3 joints from it now it cost that for 1/2 a shoulder joint !
Some people seem to think that New Zealand lamb may fill the gap but as thier lamb now goes to China i would not hold my breath !
Looks like Lamb`s off the menu for a while

As far as I know it's only some counties in the South of England that are affected by the virus. There's plenty of Scottish lamb available!0

Lucky I've still got 3 or 4 legs of lamb in the freezer from Christmas then0

My friend told me she did roast lamb on Sunday and the joint was £15 and only enough for one meal. Explains why I never buy it unless there's a good offer on!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

God help us? Why? Would eating less lamb really be something to ask God for help with? How about asking God to help Africa feed it's people who are actually STARVING? You mention lamb not being on your plate and the cost of it rocketing because of the current problems but the only sad thing (the one thing you don't seem to be concerned with) is the cost to the local farmers producing the lamb. They will take a real hit. We can eat other food, there is other food out there.'Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves'0 -
The days of buying a leg of lamb from Farmfoods for £5 is long gone. I was waiting for the price to come down but it don't look like it's going to happen. My Mom gave me a leg a few weeks ago which she paid £12 fresh for & it was delish - only did one meal though.0

Not sure i understand this thread to be honest as a money saving site most of us i assume woudn't be buying lamb anyway. For us a leg of lamb is a christmas treat! I couldn't buy lamb even before any virus threat, eat chicken or pork if the price is too high.0

Lamb Breast is the only lamb I get.
Other meat is pork.0 -
wouldn't worry about it, lamb price ALWAYS increases before Easter because the new years lambs - i.e lambs borne in 2012 are in short supply whilst the left over lambs from 2011 are not the best of quality as they are getting older.
watch market trends at the livestock auctions over the past few years it always happens. it will average out after Easter. with regards to the disease there are so many viruses around as long as foot and mouth dosent return - we are ok, poorer, but ok!!0 -
What about "Goat" instead?
I have chicken (thighs etc.) mostly as £5 or less for the week.0 -

Not My problem ! take a look at the thread in the Discussion forum re Charities and begging !
Local farmers will re-coup losses by selling stock at inflated prices , yea i know ! Poor Farmers ...again !
So the only ones taking a real hit will be the consumer , again !A Bast**d I May Be ! I Was Born One !
