Cost Replace Grouting

I have just had the kitchen floor tiled with expensive porcelain tiles. onlyproblem is that the tiler has used the wrong colour grouting.

It is about 7 sq. meters of tiles. How much should it cost to get it re groutedwith the correct colour?

  • Did you pay him? Did you tell him what colour you wanted it before he began?

  • I emailed the all details at the beginning of the job As I was going to beaway. But apparently he said he never received it.

I now he did but I just don't want to argue with him.

Do you know how much it should cost?

7 metres of 30 x 30 tiles use more grout than 7 metres of 60 x 60 tiles. 2mm gaps use less grout than 5mm gaps. Follow me? Can you be a bit more specific?

Also, as already mentioned, did you agree the colour to be used beforehand. If not then the standard colour for floors is grey. If its just a case of there was no prior agreement and you don't now like the colour he used then you don't have much of a foot to stand on except to say to him. "How much would you charge me to rake it all out and use "X"?" If however he did not follow the agreement then he should be invited to do it again at his cost.

    Cheers

Emails regularly vanish in the ether. Shouldn't be relied on as a form of communication.

Your word against his but you know that already.

I refer the Honourable Gentleman to the answer I gave a few moments ago.

  • I not too worried about materials just the approximate cost of labour to regrout 7 sq meters of tlies 30 x 30 tiles
  • Have you considered doing it yourself (Toolstation sell cheap grout of good quality)

I watched a couple of videos on Youtube to learn to grout last year and it was not difficult (I thought it would be). Just apply grout to gaps in generous proportions with grouting tool (or old credit car, wipe away excess, smooth with finger (wear latex gloves), wipe with damp sponge, leave to dry, wipe residue from tiles with cloth.

If you choose to have a professional, I wouldn't consider it fair for him to charge you a great amount. My (small) bathroom was fully tiled and grouted (before I learnt how to!) for £350 labour, plus materials which I supplied.
  • Would you not some how have remove the old grouting?
  • just as a matter of interest, what colour tiles are they & what colour grout did he use & what colour did you want ?
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • They are a kind of black porcilin it shoud be gun metal grouting

Materials wasn't totally my point. Labour is related to raking out the old as well as applying the new so the size of tile and the space between the tiles is a factor. Also if he used a flexi grout (which he should of) then its is a blighter to get out and not damage the tiles at the same time so a time consuming exercise. But I come back to my question:

Did he use the wrong colour grout per your instructions? If yes then cost doesn't come into it he should redo it at his cost. If no (or you just don't like it now its finished) then he should give you a price to change it - simples. £ 150ish including removing the old first.

    Cheers
