Help wanted

I am not sure if this is the right place or not and I know some are going to say I will have to pay extra but please let me explain.

I have bi polar and with that I struggle with making sure bills are paid on time mainly when I go hyper. I am looking for a company like onebill (who unfortuantly aren't taking new clients on) to pay monthly and they will sort my bills out and pay them for me. I know I will need to pay for the service but think that would be the easiest way of paying. I have tried to set up piggy banking but I know that when I am high I will move the whole lot and gamble it away (please don't judge me for that) I just wanted some help as I know in the next few days they hyper will be here and I am so sick of letting dd down

Pay the bills via direct debit then you wont need to remember to pay them and it wont cost you a penny in admin.
You can ask bookies to block your accounts so you cant gamble online any more.
I hope you are better soon.

  • Maybe post on the debt free wannabe board. Lots of good advice over there.

  • I can't suggest a company but here is a possible solution.

Open a bills account with a new bank. Set up Direct Debits on this account for all your regular bills. Work out the cost and then set up a Standing Order from your main account to transfer at least this much money (preferably more) from your main account as soon as you receive your income.

Either give the debit card to a trusted relative to keep safe, or cut it up. Scramble the internet banking password. This would mean if you do need access to the account, you'd need to wait a few days for a new card/password which hopefully would mean the urge to spend the money would pass.

It's not a perfect solution and you would need to be sure you transferred enough money on the right dates otherwise you may end up with charges.

I hope you can find a way that works for you - good luck.

Thank you all for being nice I was worried someone would be nasty to me I get the direct debit idea but I get wages fortnightly, working family tax credit weekly and CHB four weekly and can never work out how much of income to transfer would the bank help me with that? I really am trying to change the way I am. I have blocked gambling sites from my laptop so hopefully that will help. I know I sound thick but I really do need someone to look at my bills and income and tell me how to do it so any help would be good with that. Thank you all

How about something like think banking?

Normally I'd be loathe to recommend something like this, but you pay in to them ,and get a bills pot and a spends pot with some kind of linked card. Given your condition it could well be worthwhile looking at this crowd as (so long as you pay enough in) they will ensure that the bills are paid.

Note - it's far from moneysaving, but hopefully as your health improves then you can look for a different solution.

    All the best.

If you post a statement of affairs on the Debt free wannabe board, along with the frequncy of payments to you/bills, you will no doubt get the help you need.

    Good luck

    That is a good step.

You don’t say exactly how you have done this, so I am assuming that you have used some sort of software.

If this is the case, I would go a step further and also contact the individual bookies you have accounts with and ask them to block your account directly (many will have an option for self-exclusion in their settings page, or they will provide an email address where you can contact them).

This additional step would prevent you from using a different computer to access your gambling accounts, or from using your mobile phone to gamble (most bookies have mobile sites, apps, etc).

    Hi

Please be careful that the bank don't sell you any new products that you don't need. I do not wish to pre-judge but please make sure you don't end up signing up for a packaged current account (with a fee) or any extra credit or insurance policies that you don't want. I hope this won't happen but occasionally bank employees have been known to take advantage of customers.

Let us know how you get on, and good luck.
