EDF more than doubled DD without informing me

Ok, I dug around my account on EDF website, found "my last bill" dated December, where they did inform me of the increase. Only this e-bill was n ot posted or email'd to me. I didn't realise I had to log in to see my bills.
They have estimated my usage for the 12 months up to end of May 2012 to be £768.
Which means I am in credit for (£750) almost a years power.
(ok, without any price increases)
Am off to empty the cupboard now to read the meters...0 -
I am even more confused now. Have todays meter readings, but studying "my last bill" dated dec 2011 shows usage up to an estimated reading dated at the end of May 2011.
So, maybe the £750 credit still has to pay for my usage from last June,
If so, then I have calculated approx £300 further power used based on current readings.
So maybe not so much in credit as it seems.
I guess I have to wait to contact them tomorrow.
Also noted that they changed me from my "online saver v5" tariff to "fixed saver" tariff - from last June.
Don't understand that, its more expensive, I understood I was on online saver tariff to end on March 2012.
More questions to ask them0 -
Online Saver V5 finished I believe almost a year ago: 31/3/11. You would have been moved onto the default tariff unless you requested otherwise.
You said in an earlier post you were on a fixed tariff already?
They can't possibly have billed you in in December for a estimated usage to May!
Are you confusing this with your annual usage statement/estimate for the next 12m?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Ah, that explains why I moved to the fixed saver rate. That does end next month though, and their only offer is to go onto their standard variable tariff.
Possible confused - it is the annual statement, shows estimated use for next 12m.
But the only figures for power used is an estimated reading to 31 May 2011.
Confusing, hope they can make sense of it to me on the phone.0 -
OK, Catzooo things to do,
1- Sit down and relax
2- Look again at your bill
3- Now look at your current reading
4- Take last reading (the estimated one) away from current one
5- Find out what tariff you are being charged at
6- Work out how much you have to be charged for from the readings
7- You should now have an idea of where you stand
8- Go on a comparison website with the details of your annual usage (KwH)
to see if cheaper elsewhere
Hope this helps

Had a go at working it out. Reckon the difference is @ £300 meaning am still in credit @ £400.
I know I should have done meter readings before - but it's a pain to get to. And my poodle doesn't take kindly to men in an official capacity which is why I don't Answer the door to meter readers.0 -
I should get on comparison sites - but maybe EDF will announce a new tariff before the end of march0
-
1. EDF's computer that "calculates" future DD requirements is very broken (see numerous other threads on here) - I'll be amazed if the Customer Services people can come up with any explanation for the new figure.
2. Don't go from one extreme to another - you need to take regular meter reads yourself but don't enter them onto EDF site too often as each entry seems to trigger a "recalculation" of DD (See above!!!)
3. Be aware that you will need to allow your meter reader in at some stage, otherwise they will get a warrant and force entry!0 -
The supplier has by law to inspect your meter at least ever two years. If you don't allow the meter reader in over that period, they can obtain a warrant and force entry, as mentioned above.
So I'd push 'tidying the under-stairs cupboard' further up your to-do list!
I don't think EDF will be announcing anything in the near future, their tariff list was only recently pruned back.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Did you actually update your reading online? You should have to reckon any difference because it will tell you exactly how much you either owe or don't owe. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0
