The calculation is a flawed procedure. All petrol pumps sense tank full by back pressure in the pump nozzle and this varies pump to pump . In this case pump nozzle two had the sensing trip set to a higher pressure than pump one, allowing about 3lit more fuel in than pump one. Over such a short distance this has given a totally distorted test result.
Go from cut off full to empty to refill on the same pump and you might then get something near the correct calculation.

If I'm doing a long drive or calculating consumption I will spend a bit of time filling to the cap so I basiclly override the back pressure cut off.
  • Absolutely nowhere near enough to do a brim to brim test - minimum half a tank but preferably 2-3 full tanks to get an accurate reading.

I could pull more accurate numbers from my behind with 25 miles as a measuring distance. :)

Obviously you're completely oblivious that it will chuck out fuel from the tank vent?
