Barclays Pingit Warning

It’s free to download and use – and sending money is secure, done in seconds and shown on your Barclays bank statement.
You'll need an Android phone, BlackBerry or iPhone with internet access
You need to be a UK resident, have a UK-registered mobile number and be aged 18 or over
Non-Barclays customers with a current account can only receive payments – but soon they'll be able to send money too
When you receive a payment through Barclays Pingit, your full registered name will be made visible to the sender of the payment

Great idea so I TRIED to sign up.

Got an error code, so I called up...... apparently you get credit scored to use this app.

I have an account with Barclays, this is my main account, I do most of my purchases on my iphone, ebay mobile banking etc YET

their is nothing in your terms and conditions concerning credit references, I have a good credit score. So !!!!!! Barclays!!!

Anyone else had similar issues?

I looked at it, but to be honest it just seems like another pointless payment system by Barclays. They came up with Paypass which nobody supports (No a single shop I've visited has a compatible machine - I can understand why) and allows easy fraud due to no authentication, and now they are asking people to link there bank account to their phone.

What next? Transfer funds by thought?

There's no credit scoring with this app. The Barclays staff member is talking carp, not for the first time I'm afraid.

Can't be the case. It's only an alternative payment method - from an existing account?

Paypass/Paywave is only an alternative payment method, but you can be refused for that also. Maybe the same T&Cs apply to this payment method.

Which error code do you get? When my mother and I try to send test payments to each other, we get error P2001, but when my wife and I send test payments to each other, they go through fine. It seems that some accounts are experiencing a bug which prevents payments being sent and received.

Paypass was created by Mastercard and Paywave was made by Visa which both are trying to push hard, it's just that Barclays were the first ones to pick up on it in the UK. There are many shops in London that accept Paywave/Paypass mainly fast food and coffee shops though.
  • Yeah, nobody supports contactless, I've only used mine in Starbucks, Subway, Boots and Stagecoach buses. Even my local corner shop has a contactless terminal via Paypoint :rotfl:

My guess is that your in london, manchester, birmingham, or somewhere else big.

I did notice a contactless terminal in a newsagent when I visited Birmingham, but they also had a sign up saying "Minimum card payment: £5", and I don't see myself ever spending that much at a newsagent. Starbucks I don't know about, their coffee is horrible so I don't visit. Costa Coffee don't support contactless, and Subway is the devils spawn. Don't use buses and the boots I've visited didn't support contactless. I noticed Greggs do, but again, unlikely to spend over £5 which is stated as the minimum.

I've noticed that the local Aldi has just started accepting contactless cards
