Instant oats!

Anyone know how I can turn normal oats into instant hot oat cereal (readybrek style)?
I cant seem to find instant oats in local shops, and the ones from the supermarkets seem to have loads of additives... maybe the additives are needed for the instant oats, but I dont think so!

cant u make the oats in a microwave?
thats a quicker way.0 -
Put some oats in a bowl, add milk, stir and put in microwave, for about 2.5 minutes. leave to stand for a while. Be careful 'cause the bowl gets hot. Amount of milk depends on how you like your porridge.
Personally, I add water not milk, and then add a little cold milk when it is cooked. Lovely! Sugar or honey to taste.0 -
Thanks
I do use the microwave to heat it, but the difference between normal oats and instant oats is: normal oats takes about 5 mins in the microwave (according to the box), whereas instant oats just takes 2 mins and is much smoother than normal oats.0 -
Can you not just put the rolled oats into a food processor to break them down more? Should create a more goopy consistency and speed up the cooking/ hydrationAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Also, make sure that you have porridge oats, not jumbo oats. Sorry if that's a really obvious point, but I did once have a discussion with a friend where it turned out he didn't realise that there was a difference...0

That makes 2 of us then

Luckily I have both at home... I bought the jumbo oats to for flapjacks0 -
if you pop the milk/water on the night before and leave it in the fridge it takes a lot less time to cook. i find that proper oats as opposed to the instant stuff fill me up for much longerMum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

I've heard that recommended a few times actually
I havent been having porridge long, but I now have a huge bowl every morning, i'm just not sure I could stomach normal oats so early in the morning.
I'm not sure if there are any health disadvantages with instant oats (some use wholegrain oats)... but i'm a bit put off when it says on the packet 'keeps your kids going til lunchtime'... i'm 28 LoL0 -
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.:D0
