urban detourer for me as well;
my little one at 18 months way in age 5 clothes and weighed 35 pound.
they are really easy to steer and i found him very heavy to push in a normal buggy.check out ebay ect and you may be able to pick up a bargain.another advantage is that they lie flat for when they have a nap.0 -
miss attitude your baby was bigger than mine so i'll take your advice! roo's height is off the chart but his weight is around the 91st centile so he isn't really that heavy, he just seems it because the extendible leg rest bars on my techno XT seem bowed and wonky.
i'll have a look then thanks! today i tried putting the seat at it's shortest to see if his feet rested on the footrest but he hated it and wriggled off the seat almost (he was strapped in, but it would be very uncomfortable for his bottom to dangle off the seat like that.
i had a nose at everyone else's prams and almost every baby i saw today was in a techno XT or other mclaren and they all looked comfortable. yesterday i looked at a jane slalom (?) and that looked great but she said it cost around £600 - eeep! my sister's mutsy is nice too but that cost a lot.
my tall husband liked the handle height on the XT, and we wanted something to fold small for the boot. it would be perfect if only the extendable leg rest was sturdier.
i tried to get him into a mothercare pram at the weekend but he was grumpy after trying on shoes and trying out trikes. our local is tiny, we were in the big one because we'd been to trentham gardens and i don't think we'll go back for a few weeks so getting opinions has been a great help, i prefer to know what to look for.'bad mothers club' member 13

not as groovy as some prams
but you cant beat a Silver Cross
wayferer for hauling kids & shopping
round. The seat is a good large size
holds loads of shopping in the trolly
below and best of all is gentle going
over bumpy roads because of the
suspension.
you could probably pick one cheaply

Do you have a Toys are us near you? If so, there is a stroller called Alpine there.
Costs £70 and it is fab, lightweight and study for a bigger baby. Is also suitable from birth.
I have had one and it lasted ages, was bigger then the Techno. My nearly four year old dd can sit in it and not be squashed.
Is very easy to push.
The legrest is better aswell. Its a put up put down kind instead of a push in pull out on the Techno.
You can aslo try it out instore to see if your ds will be comfortable in it.
Heres a link for you to have a look at. Is definately worth it! Is on offer at the moment too!!

Prams are a nightmare, my sons 15months and already on his 3rd pram, i had a travel system when he was born because it was easy, then i got a mamas and papas 03 3 wheeler. Really nice but he looks stupid in it cos his heads near enough hitting the hood and his legs are too long!
I now have the Techno XT and i have no problems with it, its the best so far and i wouldn't change it. Well worth its money. I bought it from http://www.kiddicare.com they've got some bargains.Baby number 2 due April 2010, were having a girl!!! :j0 -
I would go for a 3 wheeler, Mountain buggies are ace !!! On the pricey side, but won't fall to bits and leave you needing a 3rd pushchair for the same child !!! Try Ebay ?0

Kids are funny they go through that stage when they won't get in their buggy and insist on walking everywhere, but then they get past that and want pushing around everywhere!! Depending on your lifestyle, you may need a buggy for at least another 18 months. My DD last went in her Maclaren at about 4 and 1/2! She hadn't been in it regularly for a while. Sometimes you just need to get somwhere fast so easy in the buggy, or they suddenly get tired or awkward. Sorry I'm not answering your question, just telling you what you know (and what your husband needs persuading of!) already! My DD also had a Mamas & Papas travel system with a pushchair and that seat and backrest was much bigger and more substantial than the Maclaran, but it wasn't easy for the bus etc.0 -
Forogt to add on teh mountain buggy side - we bought ours on ebay for about 350 from memory and sold it 2 years later for 280 so although expensive they do keep some of their value.0

i use the bus 3 or 4 times a week and there's not much room on it. a wide pram would have everyone tutting as they squeezed past me. we also chose the small-folding ones for boot space because we go away on caravan holidays, the in-laws don't live locally either.
the XT would be perfect if only the leg-rest was sturdier. i had a look at a mamas and papas pulse yesterday at playgroup, as suggested by gingham i think. it had a sturdier leg-rest so i might hunt for one of those.
i do think we will use it every now and then even as he approaches 4 yes. he wants to walk everywhere but he doesn't - if that makes sense. what he wants is to walk to the nearest interesting thing, and then throw himself on the floor demanding that i carry him the rest of the way. that's only been happening a couple of weeks but i can see it carrying on  i remember my ten year old being rushed down to nursery sometimes in his pram when he was 4 - he didn't use it much, only on the occasions we were going to be late for nursery and pushing the pram down the hill was going to be faster than walking (the hill was too steep for him to ride his bike).
there is only ever one mum though, out of 80 who turns up out of breath with a 4 year old in a pram :rotfl:'bad mothers club' member 13
