Recorded Delivery - Electronic proof of delivery not available

Hi,

This is a question for a friend. She posted an eBay item by Recorded Delivery. It updated online and stated the item was delivery from xxx Delivery Office on 16th Feb. The signature did not update straight away and said something along the lines of waiting 24 - 72 hours to see the signature.

She has just tracked the item again and now gets the following message:

Thank you for using this service.
Sorry, an electronic proof of delivery is not available for this item.

When I have sent items RD in the past I have never seen this message so unsure why it would say this other than RM not requesting a signature. Her buyer claims the item has not arrived so it there anyway RM can see who signed for it?

Thanks for any info :)

You write to them and ask if they have it on file.

When I've had this message before on a big glut of recorded items, RM have sent me signatures via the post...only about 50% asked for though have been posted back to me, so don't expect it to be on their records.

She is going to give RM a call tomorrow to see if there is any signature on file.

My guess is that is has been delivered or collected from Delivery Office and no signature has been requested.

I would have thought if there was a signature on file which had not yet been updated it would still show the message: 'Sorry, your electronic proof of delivery is not available at the moment. Please come back and check again in 24 hours.'

I've never rung, but it takes them a good few weeks to get back with letter proof - not sure they'll be able to access within a decent phone call length.

I've never had the online tracking updated from that statement weeks, months after buyer has left feedback on ebay. However, following that statement online, RM have sent me a signature for the item when asked about 50% of the time - the signature just wasn't taken electronically so no proof can be uploaded.

The signature MAY be somewhere in a file in RM somewhere, but if the statement she has makes it clear it will not be in an electronic format and the only proof that MAY be available is if someone at an office somewhere puts it through a scanner/photocopier manually when asked to.

If it says delivered then there is no need for a signature for eBay/PayPal.

I agree. I would also add though that it never hurts to help a buyer trace a parcel, but buyer also needs to do a bit of leg work themselves and ask around neighbours and such like.

I do understand it was only delivered 3 days ago and it can take a while for the signature to update. I just don't understand why it has been updated with the following message:

Thank you for using this service.
Sorry, an electronic proof of delivery is not available for this item.

Reading that, it seems like there is no proof of delivery available and won't update at a later time. The message which we both got for the past 3 days was:

Sorry, your electronic proof of delivery is not available at the moment. Please come back and check again in 24 hours. On occasion, we experience delays with this service and it can take up to 5 working days for electronic proof of delivery to be available. If your proof of delivery is still not available after 5 days, please contact Customer Services on 08457 740 740"
