ZorinOS

Morning all,
I'm trying to install ZorinOS onto a Windows 7 NetBook, using a USB pendrive as it doesn't have DVD/CD. Previously I've always used Ubuntu, installed using Windows Installer.
On rebooting, I get a SYSLINUX copyright notice on the screen (so it's accessing the USB stick) but nothing else appears to be happening. How long should it take before the live OS starts?

I've tried the USB pendrive on my desktop PC and it loads the ZorinOS menu within a few seconds of booting. On the netbook it justs sits there with the one-line copyright notice, a glashing cursor on line 2. The LED on the USB pen is on.How do I add a signature?0

Since I've never heard of ZorinOS, and I doubt very many people on this board will have, maybe a BBS devoted to ZorinOS would be your best port of call?0

You don't say which netboox it is, but that probably doesn't matter since post#2 says it doesn't see the menu. I don't know if using Xboot may work or the other pendrive installer will work (brain not working yet) will load up my Windows box (where I have xboot) and will dig out the thread about xboot too. Spud has used zorin i noted in a thread yesterday so he may come along (it is a weekend isn't it spudMorning all,

Brain slowly returning to normal the other installer is Yumi and xboot "does" include Zorinos in its initial stuff too. NB xboot does need .net V4 and there is not much in documentation that we could find. The general banter on xboot was in this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/37184034.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . FYI it's an Acer Aspire One. It originally dual-booted between Windows 7 Starter and Android, and I installed Ubuntu 11.10 last night after I got nowhere with Zorin. I don't use Android, so this can be removed if necessary, as can Ubuntu once I've had a chance to try Zorin.

Need the computer make and model. How did you create the Live USB key? What version of ZorinOS are you trying to boot?0
-
Acer Aspire One
zorin-os-5.2-core-32 and key created using Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.8.4 (also tried with unetbootin-windows-568, same result)
The live USB will work on my desktop PC, so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the key.How do I add a signature?0 -
Just popped in, and find this, I did try out Zorin, similar to Xubuntu. However I used the 'Lite' (for lower spec) version as I mentioned in yesterdays post. Unfortunately I used the traditional cd method 'cos the old pc doesn't boot from usb.
I'll have a try with unetbootin if I can find a suitable flash drive and time.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I posted a plea for help on one of the Zorin forums. Apparently it's because the Acer netbook has the recovery partition at the beginning of the hard drive.
So it's back to the drawing board. Thanks all for the help. How do I add a signature?0 -
Some net books have problems with larger USB/flash drives.
Cant see how any partition on any computer would affect booting of a USB drive.0
