My opinion of neuro-linguistic-programming is tainted somewhat by somebody I once encountered who was blatantly using the methods to manipulate people and situations and get his own way. I don't want to knock it completely, but I'd echo what others have said in making sure you choose a reputable practitioner. There are a lot of b.s.-ers out there..
  • Wow, lots of conflicting answers. Thanks for them all. I think I have decided to do a fear of flying course.:)
Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!

    Good for you!

I had hypnotherapy to help me with my fear of flying and it did work to a degree. I also had exactly your issues about claustrophobia/feeling closed in BTW so I empathise completely and also admire you for doing long haul, I've only ever managed 3-4 hours and the thought of anything more would make me pretty nervous. Anyway I had three sessions of hypnotherapy at a cost of I think £240. Not perfect - I'm still a bit nervous - but I'm a lot better and can book flights without coming out in a sweat although I do still have butterflies as I board. But way less symptoms than before.

I have heard of friends who have done fear of flying courses and really rate them. I think this is the best place to start personally and would have done it had it occurred to me - although also from Belfast I would probably have had to fly to do the course :) so not so much use at that time.

Lots of luck! And do let us know how you get on.
