Why do they do it?

Pregnant women. Why do they arch their backs in order to maximise the belly bulge? Why do they waddle? Why do they rub their bumps? Why do they have to exagerate all aforementioned? "Hey look at me! Guess what I've been up to? I've made a baby". Ughh..

It gets on my wick. I know they don't all do it, but those who do.........Oh, and I've had babies of my own and promise I wasn't precious during my pregnancies. Just had to rant after seeing a photo of that Peaches girlie. Off to bed, with hopes I won't be so grumpy after a good sleep.

Because they can. My wife has done pretty much all of the thing's you mention during her pregnancies wether it was on purpose or not I couldn't tell you. If it was on purpose and it made her feel better doing any of them when she was having a bad day or just in general I think she was entitled. (Not sure what the peaches girlie thing is though)

Some women carry the baby low which is I'm guessing, why they waddle. Some carry theirs higher up which is maybe why they arch their back more. The centre of weight is adjusted so you need to position yourself right for the centre of gravity (I fall over full term because of imbalance).

I had my baby by c-section. I occasionally have sciatica since the birth, nothing to do with the birth but to do with how my baby was positioned inside me.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • I used to rub my tummy when the baby was kicking especially if I found a foot trying to push against the side of my bump which I used to find incredibly uncomfortable.

I don't think its an attempt to show it off, being pregnant isn't exactly easy.

I would like to bet that you did all those things that you aren't being precious about you probably didn't even realise you were doing it ;)

They do it deliberately, solely to irritate the particularly joyless and embittered section of society that bothers about such things.

Well when I was pregnant I waddled due to SPD, I arched my back when it was aching to try and relieve the pain (which was, unfortunately, quite often), I rubbed my belly because he used to poke his feet or hands about and I could shift them by rubbing my tummy, and sometimes I rubbed it because I just lived having a belly full of baby.
I didn't need to exaggerate anything. I was fairly obviously pregnant (massive bump, waddly, etc) but I know some women who only had small bumps and liked to push them out etc because they were proud of their big bellies, proud of the life that was in there, and proud that they had made a baby and were going to be a mother, and good for them!

Some of it is natural and understandable - a bad back, etcetera.

On the other hand, some of it is ostentation - the cult of the minor-to-the-point-of-invisibility 'celebrity'. Those most prone to it seem to be social inadequates, the sort of people who can't do anything else to get themselves noticed.
