UPDATE: Ex Boyfriend "Relationship Debt"
Options
Regarding my post: Ex Boyfriend Debt - Advise please?
(Sorry it won't let me post a link because I am new)
I have had this email (below) with the full agreement attached and, absolutely horrifyingly, he's CC'd it to a colleague at my work (who countersigned it)
So now I am going to have to have a chat with my HR manager in the morning
I want to curl up and die!
Joey,
Attached is a scanned copy of the agreement sent to me on the 21st of January, 2011.
You will find it includes a clear summary of the amount owed - please clarify as to what part of this agreement, which you have been repaying for almost a year, you do now not understand.
To summarise, for the past year you have repaid £1,200.00 of the original £3,249.50. This, including the interest at the agreed 20% APR, leaves a remaining outstanding balance of: £2,691.38, which is currently occurring aprox. £45 of interest every month.
As you have made it clear that you do not intend to repay this outstanding balance, until I hear otherwise from you I will be taking the following steps:
1 - As defined in the agreement, the amount and responsibility for reclaiming the amount from you will be past to a 3rd party - they will contact you directly.
2 - Either the 3rd party directly or myself will once again begin court proceedings to recover this amount. As stipulated in the agreement.
Under both these steps, as defined in the agreement, you become personally liable for any additional costs involved in recovering this amount. These include:
- Tracking down your address, which you are refusing to provide.
- Legal costs involved in a small claims court proceeding.
- All fees any 3rd party deems necessary for their services in recovering this debt.
Let me know if anything stated in this email is unclear or you do not understand.
Regards,

unless he has a credit licence he might just be looking at a jail sentence for offering credit terms with fixed interest
tell him you look forward to seeing him in court and you will be looking for a refund of all monies hes taken off you by menaces0 -
Here's the other thread - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3800969
Whatever else you do, emphasise to the police and your bosses that it was signed under duress.
Quoted from other thread - "Afterward, he bombarded me with emails and phone calls pressuring me to sign a contract he had drawn up, so I could pay him back the "relationship debt", this being the cost of up taking the house, money back for apparent items we had bought for the house and things he had bought for me.
He tallied this up to £4k (plus 20% apr!) and because he put me under enormous amount of pressure and because I was very close to complete mental meltdown, (I was on anti depressants) I signed this contract to get him off my back."
What a shame your colleague counter-signed it. I would have tried to talk you out of it.0 -
If he lives anywhere in Yorkshire, I will thump him free of charge.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Thank you for pasting the thread - and the kind offer of a thump, ha!
This has been a horrible week actually. A guy I was dating for a couple of months called things off on valentines day and the added stress of being sharked for money is driving me into the ground.
I was doing so well at keeping calm until I saw this email
I appreciate your support.
I just absolutely can not believe I now have to deal with talking to work about this. I am beyond embarrassed. It's going to taint the rest of my weekend now
The guy I work with, he just sits next to me at work and I was new to the company at the time (as was he) so I just mumbled something about needing a counter signature and he did it as a favour ( as we sometimes do for tenancy agreements and stuff)
I haven't responded. I am tempted to just ignore it and see how it pans out. I mean debt collectors who will then take me to court? That doesn't even make sense to me?0 -
Although - it's hard to take someone seriously who, in a "official warning email", doesn't know the grammatical difference between past and passed

My honest advice is this.
Find out how to set up spam filters on your e.mail server.
Filter out his messages in to your spam box and set them for auto-delete.
You need to remove this **** out of your head space ASAP.
He wont take you anywhere, what he is doing is illegal.
So if you need advice how to set up a filter post your e.mail provider such as o2, tiscali ect and someone will show you how to do it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I was going to spam him but then I thought if it I am going to go down the harrassment route, I need to capture anything he sends to use as evidence, I guess. I use Gmail so for the time being I set it to redirect to a folder and mark as read so it doesn't flash up on my iphone.
I warned him I was blocking him so as far as he is concerned he is now blocked (which is why I won't respond and also why he is involving people in my office)
You are right though. I need to try and breathe easy0
