Technical Support earlier arranged to send me a Sure Signal box for delivery without charge on Tuesday, which should resolve my issue in my property. Is it relaitvely easy to set up ad install? I was told I need to also register it online. Does Sure Signal take up a lot of broadband bandwith?
Yes once you receive the sure signal box, you need to activate it using its serial number via your online account (click here to register incase you're not already registered). Then all you do is plug it into your router and leave it plugged in all the time - once the lights on the SS stop flashing then your SS is ready (can take up to 24 hrs though)
The actual bandwidth the SS uses is very small. In our household around 3000 mins of calls are made each month via the SS yet it uses less than 50mb of bandwidth.
If you have any problems setting up your SS then post on the Vodafone forums here, as their online staff seem to be more clued up than their phone counterparts.0 -
Orange do their version called UMA, but it only works on certain handsets and these need to be locked to Orange with their bloatware, so going to an independent won't give you UMA.
It is pretty reliable, but not 100% by any means.
UMA works on any blackberry it doesn't need to be locked to Orange. You just have to enter the settings manually.0 -
hoe comes it works on blackberry phones and not on every phone? What goes around-comes around0

I should clarify, Vodafone Suresignal will work on a 3g handset, because the suresignal box is acting as a cell transmitter.
UMA is different, the handset is programmed to connect over wifi to the cell network Similar to VOIP, It doesn't work on all handsets because there is no facility to put in the server address for it to connect.0 -

Suresignal yes
UMA No.
UMA won't even work on every phone that has wifi, The list of compatible handsets supplied above is misleading. They must be Orange handsets because specialist firmware is required on the handset to connect to the carrier. With the exception of Blackberry which comes with the ability by default, its just hidden if the carrier does not support it. It can be activated manually.0 -
i mean the uma signal boost if it works on unlocked blackberrys i dont see why it cant work potentially on every phoneWhat goes around-comes around0

I've just explained why. Its requires special firmware to connect. Its built into blackberry os, but on android it requires a special app supplied by Kineto called smart-wifi with the settings pre installed, you can't download it, it only comes with orange firmware.
So hypothetically yes it can work on any device, if you have the right firmware.0 -
right -just odd then that all blackberrys have it and some androids dont
anyway im sure one day they willWhat goes around-comes around0
