Thank you I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about building our young people up so that they will want to stand on higher ground. Totally agree the princess does need to go in style, her style.

Mum if you give us an area of uk then who knows someone here may have a contact who can help her out.

If she's really not happy now some little begger has put a dampner on her dress, how about ebay? I got one on there to go to my BF's hen do last year as she had big dresses and got for around £20 mark. Also, with regards to the Limo, are there more kids that could perhaps go in the Limo? Share the costs out more?

Speak to her about the car perhaps if not. Perhaps tell her that the Limo isnt really do-able, however she can have a manicure and a corsage instead?

DD1 didn't give a hoot about dresses, bags, shoes etc. Got a cheapy dress, shoes, bag off ebay - she looked beautiful and I pushed her through the door with attitude! Many of her friends (read parents!) spent small fortunes needlessly. We knew DD1's outfit would never see the light of day again so didn't (and to her credit she didn't ask) pay a whole lot. She had fun and that's what it is all about IMO.

DD2 - a nightmare re: dress etc. She just HAD to have the dress she's set her heart on. We had to get a family member in America to buy it on our behalf and send it over. Shoes HAD to come from Italy. To be a little bit fair I have to accept that she contributed her hard earned wages to pay towards her outfit. I have no reason to believe she had a better time at her prom than DD1.

IMO, forget the fancy cars, expensive dresses etc - the best thing you can equip your DD with at her prom is a sense of confidence and self worth, perhaps a few chocolates and flowers too :-) Kids should enjoy their prom without all of the 'my dress is better than yours' type of remarks.

...and yes, DD2 did see the error of her ways and now tells me off for 'allowing' her to be pretentious!!!!
