calls from accident companies when we havent had an accident!

Rather worryingly I have received 3 or 4 calls from accident claims companies, all with a Manchester area code, saying my daughter was involved in a car accident and they had compensation put aside for her. My daughter hasn't been in an accident either as a passenger or driver (she hadn't even passed her test on the alleged date in question!). Where do they get this information from? What happens if the info gets garbled and all of a sudden she is excused of causing an accident? How do I stop it and who regulates these people - can I insist on them providing more info? Thanks, a worried mother!

It's just cold calling. Putting your number on the TPS may cut it down.

But in the meantime just put the phone down.

i had 3 of these calls with in a couple of weeks of each other , after the third i lost it , i think it was the same person who had rung me so i asked them if they were ringing me up in the hope of me being injured .... i pointed out that even if i was in need of making a claim , hell wouldf freeze over before i woud require the services of a cold caller , after a 5 minute rant , i told him not to call me aagain and that was over 8 months and i've not had a call since
i know it may be harsh on thwe person who is only doing their job , but they do not/should not have the right to ring up and cold call ..... so my advice is , have a good rant - there's nothing to be worried about
  • thank you to both replies - I'm a bit more relieved now that I know that it has happened to other people.....although no-one should be put in the position of being worried by a phone call! I shall know what to do next time...thanks again:T

If you've got the time it's enjoyable to wind these morons up.

Ask for full detils of when and where the accident took place, what other cars were involved, names of the other peple involved, what the road conditions were like and anything else you can think of that they won't be able to answer. After about 20 minutes they will hang up. (and hopefully note that it's not worth bothering you again)

Don't give them any details about your daughter's name or any car she drives. (If they were genuine they would already know these details)
  • What happens if you say "yes that was me, all your details are correct please carry on with the claim"??? Obviously they can't as it never happened?? So what is it that these people are hoping for?

Next time one of them ring me up I'm tempted to say something along the lines of 'Oh yes I remember that now you come to mention it, terrible accident - broke 3 fingernails! How much money are you going to give me?'

My mobile number isn't and has never been on autotrader, plus it's also registered on the TPS.

I expect they just spam people testing every available possible number as bulk texts aren't really that expensive.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
