Welcome to the MSE forums Desmond.Desmond wrote:Greetings all, this is my first post. Although 18185 state on the website that UK Mobile calls are charged at 6p per minute, the recorded voice when you use this service confirms that the charge is in fact 10p per minute. Anyone else noticed that?
I've just tried calling a mobile using the 18185 prefix from my BT landline and the tariff announcement still says 6p per minute.
As BexTech says, is there a reason you are using the 0808 access number instead? If there is, the prices are different - see HERE - and 10p per minute is correct.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I know this is an old thread..
but it seems that the mobile / freephone rates are sometimes cheaper than the ones using 18185
has anyone else noticed this?0 -
Yes, bizarrely, they're cheaper at weekends via the 08081703703 freephone gateway number (4p/minute instead of 5p/minute via the 18185 prefix) but more expensive (10p/minute instead of 6p/minute via the 18185 prefix) during the week.tobiascurious wrote: »I know this is an old thread..

In fact, that's precisely the reason 08081703703 was added as Carrier 5 and specified for use at the weekend in Routing Rule 10 in the Heinz (Orchid) program (see Kevin Lawry's spreadsheet).
However, it was also found that 08081703703 was (in practice but not necessarily on 18185's website), a cheaper route for 0845 and 0870 calls at certain times (see Routing Rules 15 & 16 in that same spreadsheet).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
