18185 mobile rate...

... appears to have increased to 6p/minute weekdays. Still 2p/min at weekends.

A 2 min call to a UK mobile will therefore now cost 17p (2 mins @ 6p = 12p + 5p connection charge).

Not sure when it went up from 5p/min - only noticed it just now...

    It's been 6p since I joined 4 or 5 months ago.
  • yes. i joined up recently and noted the 6p for mobiles cost.

but, could anyone help me with another query re. 18185 whilst you are all on here?

i signed to up the primus deal and 18185 as per the tutorial. everything working fine at first, but now i sometimes don't hear the message/call charges and i am put straight through. not sure who will be charging me?

also, don't know whether this is just coincidence, but when the messages stopped - mainly on 0870/0845 and mob nos - it seemed to conincide with me moving from tesco to primus.

any thoughts or comments gratefully received:confused:

BT is cheaper for 0845/0870 calls most of the time now - so use a 1280 prefix instead of 18185.

To see whether a call went out on 18185 as you intended, check your 18185 itemised calls list online (calls are visible after half an hour or so).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Whilst we're on the general subject of 18185, can anyone please tell me what they (or, for that matter, 1889 or 18866) charge for 0844 calls?

I know 0844 charges are fairly complex (pages and pages of different codes and rates on the BT specialised number list) but 5ppm/5ppm/5ppm (D/E/W) seems a common 0844 BT rate. And I see Heinz recommends BT for 0844 calls.

But what do 18185 charge for them - I can't find them listed on their website?

thanks for the tip re: charge checks - i hadn't been able to see anything other than the invoice before.

i do use 1280 at the correct times of the day - i have a list, but i have it all in my head now!

thing is my OH is rubbish (or he doesn't listen). realised he was doing 18185 for landlines eves/wends!

have just checked and he hasn't done that since the 7th!

thanks so much again heinz for the original tutorial and further advice:T

1899/18866/18185 do not deliver calls to 0844 or 0871 numbers. Its best to put this sort of call traffic through BT.

The call cost announcement you hear is played out to you when the other end is ringing, the person you are calling will have heard the phone ringing a few seconds before you hear the ringing tone as part of the ring is the call cost announcement.

When calling 0870 / 0845 numbers these often end up on an automated system, this means that as soon as you have dialled the number it is answered immediately, therefore not giving the call announcement system any time to inform you of the call cost. With mobiles it could be that voicemail kicks in straight away too, again not giving the system long enough to inform you. The same will happen on a landline if they have 1571 service and on the phone, so it kicks in straight away, also if they are sitting next to the phone they may answer on the first ring, before your end has had chance to announce the price and playback the ringing tone.

Thanks,Heinz, for showing above that you can see your ongoing itemised calls spent, hour by hour so to speak on 18185- we use them to ring abroad too so its useful to see how much we have spent at any time. I had not noticed that facility.
  • Greetings all, this is my first post. Although 18185 state on the website that UK Mobile calls are charged at 6p per minute, the recorded voice when you use this service confirms that the charge is in fact 10p per minute. Anyone else noticed that?

Are you using the 0808 Non-BT direct access number?
