Ok, so I've booted the computer from the xp disc, all seemed to be going well, then it got to where it said it was starting windows and then ended up on a blue screen which said:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
Stop: 0x0000007B
What do I do now?!
I'm drowning!0 -
Is this a retail disk or an OEM one?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
-
It came with a computer I used to have0

So read the CD-what does it say (I'm guessing OEM)?
Is that computer still in use?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Try contacting Samsung themselves as they may sell you the recovery CD/DVD to you, which would solve the problem. Most netbooks will come with recovery software/partitioning, and it's very important that you read your manual first to find out what you need to do at the very start of owning it. This is usually to make a mental note that you don't go and do something like this to the machine, to wipe that recovery partition, or using the console provided actually create a recovery disc yourself.
As you are looking to sell it, and you have wiped the recovery partition, when you get it to the position of actually selling it to someone, be kind and let them know that it will have no recovery partition. Because it will save you hassle if someone buys it, expecting it to have it, and possibly needing it themselves, especially if you sell it in full working order etc.
Did you reformat the drive when you tried to install windows XP (after installing windows vista)? If not try again, but this time reformat the drive so it's totally clean.
Also as has been asked previously, what type of XP disc are you installing? This will affect whether your key linked to that machine will work too.
On a serious note, save yourself some trouble. go purchase it from samsung, and pass that on when you sell the netbook. You can't sell it with a key from a different machine, it will not work after x time (deactivate) or will just not accept the key upon installing. If you do so, you will open yourself up to problems afterwards, and anyone who did buy it would have every right to demand a refund as you've sold it as being legal, and it quite simply is not.
An expensive mistake maybe, but the cost of a recovery disc from samsung will outweigh having a dead machine that you can't do anything with/sell it.0 -

It doesn't say oem on it, just says for distribution with a new medion pc only, and says product recovery cd-rom.
Don't you think the key will work with it?0 -
I don't really understand that trouble shooting guide, I think I am way out of my depth. Do you think the best option would be to contact Samsung and see if they can send me a disc?
Btw, i really appreciate all the help0 -
Might do but depends on whether the machine uses OEM-SLP to lock it down. If this is the case you will need a specific XP recovery disc from the computer manufacturer.0

I think it depends how much you want to mess around with it now. If you have the time, desire, effort, and paitnence to just keep at it and possibly install a few times over, tweaking, or trying to locate a (SAFE) download of the OS, and hope your key from the machine works with it, then you can carry on doing it.
You sound kinda Frazzled about it, so I'd suggest that you contact samsung, explain the situation, say you're not tech minded and need to re-install windows but have lost the recovery partition. Maybe if the person on the end is having a good day, you'll get a copy for free, or cheaper, otherwise you will probably have to pay. But always try and bargain. So if they say some stupid price like £50, "Oh. (be sad) no way I can afford that". sometimes they will reduce it. Always be nice though. Ultimately it was your mistake, not theirs, so no point having a mood with them if they do want to charge you.
The likely hood is that you will have to cough up something for it, unfortunately. However just put it down to a silly error, that you learn from, and it's all fixed again, easier for you to do, and gets the netbook in a position to sell.
Dell were adamant about not giving us my mums one for free (even though the non-recovery is an issue with the machine itself, not our fault) and in the end I said stuff it, and basically wiped all programs with ccleaner, and such like, but i still have the OS on the machine.0
