My sister is allergic to dairy produce and has a lot of vegan cookery books, so I'll ask her if she's got any good cake recipes. I know she uses a lot of recipes by Rose Elliot.
I'll investigate and will post if she has a good recipe. Are they allergic to anything else?0 -
The only egg-free recipe I can find is for banana cake, so not sure how suitable this would be for a birthday cake. :-/
Also - have to admit that I haven't tried making it.
Details are:
Oven Gas Mark 5
Grease 1lb loaf tin
Mix together 450g ripe bananas, mashed; 50g chopped toasted hazelnuts; 100ml sunflower oil; 100g raisins; 75g wholemeal flour; 50g plain flour; 75g porridge oats; 1tsp baking powder; 0.5tsp vanilla essence; 1tsp salt.
When stirred together the mixture should be soft and moist. Pour the mixture into the greased tin. Bake for 50-60 mins until firm. Cool before turning out.

Thanks Yoga girl. No they do not seem to be allergic to anything else but this one really is a pain - everything seems to have egg in it (even some gravy mixes)!
Thanks jo b the boys would probably love it. I will be copying this one out. They are not old enough to care too much yet on missing out but soon they will so a good selecion of recepies is going to b a great help.0 -

i've done the banana cake above, and its fab. my nephew is allergic to eggs, and we bake him shortbread, as lot of shop biscuits have egg in them. you use 6oz plain flour, 4 oz butter, 2 oz caster sugar. chuck sugar and flour in bowl, add butter and rub together, will go like breadcrumbs, but keep going and will start to stick together. once pretty much stuck together, wap it in baking tray, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, sprinkle with sugar, bake on middle shelf of oven for 20-25 mins till brown on top, slice whilst warm, keep for upto four weeks in airtight container.0

Just discovered that your question has been asked before, Deronda.

Hope this gives you some more ideas.0 -
I often make eggless cakes, just because i have no eggs or dont fancy them. Use 1 mashed banana for every 2 eggs you miss out, or 1 tbsp soya flour mixed with 2 tbsp water for every egg you leave out.
I used to be a vegan, and patrick antony did a egg, sugar and flour free cake once on tv(!!!) i lost the recipe but it was delish :PMember no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

Not a cake recipe, but you can make almost anything without eggs. As people suggested try vegan recipes.
To make quiche without eggs then do the following;
- Make the pastry for the case
- Prepare / cook the ingredients for the quiche filling
- Take a small potatoe and peel it. Cook until soft and then add a little water and blitz the whole potatoe in a food processor until it is runny liquid. Pour this liquid over the quiche filling and cook in the oven as normal. The starch in the potatoe will do the job of the egg and set the quiche.
