£800 for a family of 4 which is just under £30 a day. It wasn't enough when we were handing out pocket money, dinner money, topping up mobiles, buying clothes/shoes/trainers and on and on.

However now the kids have left school and started work they buy all of their own 'stuff' and pay board £25 per week each I find we have plenty of money to live off.

We have about £1800 left a left a month after all bills (incl. home heating, petrol, Insurances, Taxes, regular savings, pensions etc.) are paid.

That has to cover food for 2 adults and a toddler, the holidays, unscheduled expenses and car or home repairs etc.

Whatever is left of that at the end of each month we add to the savings pot.

We have approximately £2000 after all bills are paid, and we save £1000 of this. The rest pays for food (probably our main expenditure, as we rarely go out) and treats, clothes and any unexpected bills etc.... We are very lucky, but are living cheaply in rented accommodation, are very careful to be MSE with comparing costs for utilities and insurance etc....

We are saving for a deposit on a house, which is taking ages as we want to live near family in an expensive part of the South East. Also, i am on maternity leave and our income will soon drop drastically!

We are a family of two adults, a toddler and a baby.

  • I'm doing postgrad study and working part time. So £1200 comes in, after Council Tax, NI etc. £650 on rent, £150 on bills (including utilities, phone, mobile, internet, tv) £250 remaining for just me (and some pet fish!), for food, train to work, and extras. Usually £150 ish for my savings pot.
  • After bills - £50 per week for food, petrol and everything else. Its tight - but we never go hungry in fact we have quite a decent standard of living I think.

We're pretty much the same; altho our grocery spend is from vouchers rather than cash (but still comes to £50-£60 cash/voucher spend per week) for 2 adults :-)
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!

About £800 left after all bills and expenses are included. I put £200 in the savings and the rest is just for food/clothes for 5 of us.
