what do you live on?

Options
So an actual money related thread!

How much do you live on month to month, and what is the size of the family that lives on that figure? Doesn't matter where the rest (if there is any) of the money goes (could be mortgage, savings, CSA etc) but I just want a ballpark of what a family income is...

AFTER MORTGAGE/RENT/CT/GAS/ELEC/WATER(savings/investments etc as you see fit) what does your family live on?

For us its £800p/m spends. For 2 adults 2 primary kids. This includes food, petrol (leisure - we both commute by train, which is not part of this budget), day to day costs, school dinners/ dancing/football/music lessons, milkman, days out, meals out etc etc. E.g. all NON essentials, the pure cost of living is funded from a different account elsewhere.

I feel pretty comfortable on that.

What are your family spends (and size of your family) and how comfortable is it?

  • About £1500 Family 2 adults 1 child. We have recently dropped a £1000 a month. I think we are comfortable. We could of moved to a more expensive house in the past, but we never did.
I always wanted to be prepared for every eventuality. Like a wage drop etc. We have never lived up to or beyond or means.

We have £600 a month to live off for a family of 5 once all the bills are paid and I mean all the bills. We are currently paying £500 a month off credit cards for 18 months then when that has gone we'll have £1100 a month to spend but I should imagine our savings will go up then too, because we dont really scrimp or miss out as it is.

After bills, mortgage, petrol, food and savings, I allow myself £250 for the incidentals, going out, presents, etc. I'm having some osteopath treatment this month which is working out rather expensively so the month will be very tight but my health is important.

About £600 for 2 of us but we are making a massive push to pay off debts. Once they are gone (2yrs to go!!!) it will be about £1300 which I can't baulk at...that's if our wages stay the same.

    Happy with my lot : - )
