Hello All,
6001: You already knew that there is a limit of 6000 miles before you buy the insurance and they also provide the rate of top up miles in the documents as well. Also you can monitor your usage on the portal as well. So your son or you could have easily checked in advance that you are about to consume all your mileage or could have amended the usage as your son is using it just for fun.
the95th: The portal let you view all the journeys you make including mileage and the average speed etc.
The only reason I am defending because I am insured with them and so far had no problem and earning maximum bonus miles as well apart from two months where I earned 10 less. But I do not have any experience of making a claim with them and I wish I never have to.
Yes knew there was a limit of 6000 miles when signed up to it, my son had literly just passed his test and pressumed 6000 miles would be enough. He had never driven before so had no real concept of distances required.
It does say what the top up mileage price is but not until after you have signed up and paid the £600 deposit.
So they had already got him.
They have had £3000 out of us the policy and said as he is out of mileage if we cancel the policy with 5 months still remaining will end up owing them money for admin, mileage useage etc.
And to earn bonus mileage it is impossible he drove the car careful for the whole month and got green in all fields apart from time of useage because he uses it to get to work and back and this is classed as risky so he has had NIL mileage bonus.
It also says bonus mileage can be earned via certian purchases of goods, Guess what that does not work either.
All I am advising is do not use this company unless you intend to do less than 6000 miles and dont expect to gain bonus mileage unless you intend not to use you car at peak times or at night!0 -

Sorry to be a pedant, but I think the point is that the car has an odometer and he is presumably capable of reading this. 6,000 miles doesn't just happen overnight. There are a multitude of reasons why you should be paying attention to your odometer other than insurance, so I am rather astounded he didn't realise this sooner.
I appreciate you're in a sticky situation, and I hope you find a resolution you are happy with, but this is the policy you bought and that's the way these things go unfortunately.0 -

Can it detect who is driving the car?
I ask in all seriousness, my son was looking at this and I am insured on his car, so how would it know who was driving?
Doesnt matter who is driving 6000 miles is 6000 miles. Whether you drive it or your son, daughter or the local vicar. The GPS logs data when the car moves.
Exceed these limits and they will know exactly how many miles you have done.
I did get a fairly cheap quote from them and did consider it but after reading posts like this i am glad i did not.
Normally i only cover a low mileage but family issues recently and trips between family and hospital has more than doubled my monthly mileage.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Agreed, also one of the reasons i opt out even though they were far cheaper than my insurers now. circumstances change and for this reason unless you have a 2nd car on another insurance or have access to another car with insurance that does not make you commit to these regulations then in my opinion the extra bit of money is well justifiedTotal Debt in June 2013: Barclaycard 0% until Nov 2014: £1550

I recently upped my mileage limit from 10k to 12k for £56. So that's 2.8p per mile... much better than 41p! At least I had the option to do this though!0 -

My aunties best mate is an insurance brooker and he got it for £1950 still exspensove but better then 3700 and no silly box.
If you need insurance or know another new driver then my number is 07772965262.
