    £4k and a £6k Audi A4 for the Mini.

A friend who I work with has covered just over 100k miles in his 1.8 petrol A4 in around 4 years. It still sounds quieter on the motorway than my 80k mile Ford Focus. His car now has over 160k miles on the clock.

So you got the equivelent of £10000 for your Mini? Not bad.
What did they say about the cambelt?
  • Well my husband phoned an Audi dealer and asked about the limp mode thing and when the cambelt should be changed. They said that it is correct that the car goes into limp mode when the fuel is extremely low (It drove fantastically when we had fuel in it) and that the cambelt should be changed at 80k. When we were deciding whether or not to have the car I mentioned the cambelt again to the salesman and he said 'oh no we wouldn't change that as it's not due yet' and I said to him that as he had told us the day before that if it was due at 80k then he would do it for us as otherwise we would need to be paying out for one in about 6 months which I am not willing to do. His reply was 'Oh did I say that we would change it? Oh well if I said that then I will have to get it changed won't I but you know you will be getting a really good deal now'. I just pointed out to him that no cambelt no deal as I had found another car the same for the same price with only 60k on it (but I didn't mention to him that I didn't really want to do the 1 and 1/2 hour drive to get that one - but I would have done if he wouldn't change the cambelt).

  • I own a 1998 a4 2.5 tdi with 159500 miles on it.
I have to say i have noticed a very slight drop in performance when the fuel light come on. It probably has a dead maf on it though, it should pull all the way through to 4600 rpm.
i just changed the cambelt, if your not confident doing it yourself it will cost a fortune as it requires removing a lot of parts (bumper, radiator front panel etc...) is a lovely car though. had mine for 2 1/2 years and it is showing no sign of wearing out, its as strong as the day it was made.
As said it will be worth changing the maf, well known fault on this car. To test it, try unplugging the maf and then drive it, should solve the problem (bar the red light on the dash)
  • the cambelt is due at 80,000 miles OR every 4 years! which ever is sooner so it should have had one!
also make sure that they replace all the pullys and tensioners.! Ask for the old parts and proof of the purchase of the newparts!!!
belive me you DO NOT! want the cambelt to go snap!.
Going back to the MAF sensor i replaced mine and it was like driving a total differnt car! much quicker!

    cheers JIM
