Co-op bank questions

  • I have just switched over to the Co-op from Nationwide, and as you have all said, the system is slower, and transactions dont show straight away when u have used your debit card, like they used to on my flex acc, but it does make you more aware of what you have to spend, and using pen and paper{old fashioned me}, or a computer spreadsheet to budget, isnt a bad thing!!I feel that I am starting to take responisbitity for my finances after getting into a poo load of debt due to circumstances and an ex- husband, so "thank you co-op bank!!!!" the road will be a long one, but with wine and chocolate and my 2 lovely children I will get there.

I actually like the co op esp there customer service team if you have any problems, they are uk based with a personable approach.

DD and money withdrawals from a ATM are in real time the rest you have to wait normally 3 days to up date, but you would not be able to go overdrawn as the money has been allocated in your balance , although you cannot see it in a real time version.

  • I have no complaints really with the coop, they kindly provided a br with an account. Although the way the online system updates can be frustrating at least they allow the online banking service to br's when Barclays don't.

I find that I am managing my money with more care now, the fact there is no overdraft is helping.:)

On the online available balance front, I asked the coop whether they had plans to introduce an actual available balance option and they said they are working on it, that was a few months ago though so it's probably not high on the priority list.

I couldn't agree more, very good service (apart from them charging me £15 for a direct debit from BT that they tried to take from my Cashminder account when the direct debit came out hours before my wage went in on the same day! A quick phone call got me the £15 fee waived!)

10/10 for service and speed of answering the phone and for their friendliness :j

  • post office and paying cash in, your account is credited straight away, just need your debit card. I havent paid in cheques at the post office yet, so cant comment on that. Paid a cheque into coop acc at the bank with no probs either, didnt need paying in book, as cashier used my debit card. Paid cheque in on mon and it was cleared by friday. Co op staff so friendly on the phone also. Have just added the text messaging service to my cashbuilder acc today. The service is free with O2 and vodaphone bundles, maybe other people will be along to provide some more info soon!!
  • Hi All

To pay in cheques via the Post Office you need to fill in a slip from your paying in book and place it along with your cheque in to a Co Op preprinted cheque envelope (call Customer Service and they'll post you some out or next time your in the Co Op ask for some).

As for the Co Op updating their systems to show things happening faster, don't hold your breathe, I asked them about this in 08 when I joined as it was frustrating for me too, they said then it would be a few months until they upgraded their systems ...... Now It's 2012....
  • Anyone getting a "parts of this site are insecure" message when going to the Co Op bank homepage in Google Chrome?

Only happened since Google Chrome did an update without me knowing :(

Bit worried about entering my online details!!!!!

yes......[the online section is apparently secure...]

When this isn't the case (sometimes called a “mixed script” situation), visitors to the site run the risk that attackers can interfere with the website and change the script so as to serve their own purposes.

Traditionally, browsers have run the mixed script, genuine or not, and notified you after-the-fact by a broken lock icon, a dialog box, or a red https:// in the address bar (in the case of Google Chrome). The problem with this approach is that by the time the script has run, it is already too late, because the script has had access to all of the data on the page.

Chrome protects you by refusing to run any script on a secure page unless it is also being delivered over HTTPS. Data on the page remains secure even in the presence of an attacker, but the downside is that this may cause pages to display improperly. You may wish to let the website owner know that their site isn't properly secured. A poorly-written extension can also sometimes cause this.

    from the Chrome help page

have phoned Co-op, hopefully they are now aware......
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
