Diesel prices hit new record high

Amusingly, someone was interviewed on the radio about this earlier, and he suggested it was OK, this won't push up the inflation figures, as the rise in price is not happening at such a pace, therefore we are still better off.
Go figure.
Anyway, diesel prices at a new record high. So of course, the OFT must start investigations, investigating the bleeding obvious and coming up with diddly squat, as they always feel they should everytime the price rises.
There could be some pressure applied to the government however to follow europes lead and reduce duty on diesel. The article goes on to say we could see an increase in food prices following on very soon, as already the haulage industry is bumping up the fuel surcharges, added to that clothing prices are under price pressure already without extra fuel costs.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17072925The price of diesel has hit a new high, at 143.05 pence a litre, figures have suggested.
The Retail Motor Industry (RMI) says the figures, from the analysts Experian Catalist, are a "disaster for motorists".

There just is'nt enough diesel refining / investment in capacity in the UK,large amounts of diesel are imported.
Petrol will always be cheaper, most UK refineries were built when petrol was king, and hence are geared towards petrol production.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -

Can't anything be done to change this, particularly seeing as the UK's diesel use has increased dramatically over the past decade?0 -

It'll require investment, but at the mo its easier more cost effective to ship in.
Large amounts of petrol are currently exported from the UK.
Another biggie is jet fuel, also imported into the UK.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -

Yes.
You could persuade the refining companies to invest billions increasing capacity so they can reduce their profits.
Oh, wait....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
