broken phone on 18month contract no insurance

basically my son has a nokia 6280 on 18 month contract with the 3 network only 4 months into the contact ,he fell off his bike and the phone is smashed up pretty bad.
will i be abe to put his sim in another phone ,is it right the sim is locked to the phone on 3 network ,not that clued up on mobiles.

going into a repair shop tomorrow to what they can do but not too hopeful.

can you claim it on the house contents insurance?

Should be able to activate sim in another phone, various links and sites abound with unlock codes

Edit - how bad is it - does he just need a new casing for it? Hundreds of the things on ebay for about £2

To be honest the repair bill will most probably
be uneconomic to repair. Best option would most probably log on to http://www.ebay.co.uk and buy a second hand phone on 3 (as 3 phones only work on 3) and buy him another phone approx cost would most prpbably be around £50.00 for a half decent phone on the 3 network. The phones on 3 are usally much cheaper than unlocked phones as 3 phones can only be used on the 3 netowrk.

the screens ok just the casing on the keypad smashed on the side where memory card goes .

bound to be something there. I bought a cover for my Nokia N70 (cos I fancied one in black) ages ago - no problems what so ever.

this might take a while lol ,just need the keypad part of phone so basically just half of one as casing is pretty mangled.

THE 6280 on three is around 60quid ish on ebay.

would be cheaper than claiming on insurance

Ebay is probably the answer if the phone is completely trashed. Sell the old one, describing the condition and with pics, it will sell to someone. Then look out for another phone that is either 'unlocked' or locked to the 3 network.

would the sim work in any 3 network phone or just the 6280?
if i bought one on ebay would it matter if it was an ex -contract or payg phone?
bit strapped for cash at the moment so he might have to settle for a less trendy phone

It will work in any 3 network phone, it doesnt matter if it is an ex contract or PAYG.

Apart from being smashed up does the phone work?

Can you receive calls?

If so - just go for a new casing - less that £4 including postage (and no I am not trying to sell one here - just trying to save the OP money)
