for general browsing on firefox, i have to mention http://www.ghostery.com/ this stops trackers (4 of them on this page alone!).

However by default, it did not stop all, as you have to go into the options panel and select all for that

User Agent Switcher (custom user agent providing no info)

Adblock Plus
WorldIP
ShowIP
Redirect Remover
FlagFox
HTTPS Everywhere

I also use Duck Duck Go search. Thinking of going the whole hog and doing a VPN thing.
