Tesco "green" points

Be aware, Tesco employees seem to be conveniently 'forgetting' to add in green Clubcard points for re-using bags now - my wife noticed that this has happened on all occasions that we have visited Tesco in the last couple of weeks.
No doubt they are really pleased that so many people are re-using bags, so they don't have to make and provide as many now! Environmental concerns, my foot! And how convenient that they will only add green points when we insist!

I've noticed this too, and am going to insist on getting my points from now on! I am saving them money on making bags, after all!Debts 2004: £6000..............................................Aug 2007: £0!!!!0

I always ask anyway just to make sure... our cashiers sometimes forget when its very busy.... and in any case my very friendly cashiers always add on more bags than I use sometimes doubling the amount... must just not be friendly where your wife shops....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I'm amused by the way they add 1 point per bag you use. That means if you go through the hassle of using a big shopping bag to hold shopping that would have taken 3 plastic bags to carry, you only get 1 point. I seem to remember on their advertising they had celebrities carrying their shopping in golf bags and other large containers. For actually getting points, this isn't really a great plan.0

Believe me, I have complained to Tesco a good number of times on their customer service phone number about this.
It now means I always remind the till operator at the beginning and end of the transaction about these green points, and I won't leave the spot until I have checked my receipt! Annoys the hell out of them but hey, I am entitled to these green points0 -
Yes, very annoying. Previously discussed on thread headed 'Tesco Carrier Bag Policy' (last post 3 Feb, so currently on page 9).
We have used large boxes for years instead of Tesco carriers and only recently realised we were receiving no 'green points' at all. Head office told me the local management would be reminded about this policy but last time I went back to have green points added, both Customer Service staff told me that cashiers had been instructed NOT to offer green points for anything other than reused carriers, and wait till customers ask. One said this was since the scheme was first introduced, the other mentioned something about 'a couple of weeks ago', so it sounds as though the original instruction had recently been reinforced by the management. The same management that head office had told me would be reminded about offering green points. Head office have now given up making excuses to me, ie they've stopped even replying!
It's a shambles, and just shows that it was nothing more than a publicity exercise by Tesco in the first place. This is shameful, as they are actually using it to make money out of us (er, yet again!).0 -
I'm always having a moan about this to Tesco CS. Apparently it's because there is no prompt on the till for the till person to remember to ask how many bas you've got!! My advice - if they don't ask how many bags you're reusing, tell them! I've started doing this and have noticed a healthy accumulation of green points on my statements.Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever - Mahatma Gandhi0

They do the same in my tesco,i have to constantly ask for my green points, you would think they were coming out of the cashiers pocket the way they carry on.We are entitled to these extra points for reusing our own bags so stand up to them.Yesterday i was told by a tesco employee that you get 2points for using the tesco free for life bag,but only if its full. That should be interwsting as you have to fiht to get 1 point per bag at my Ts.0

We were diddled of points yesterday but it seemed petty to complain about such small amounts. Now, we just add on a number of bags when we do our big shop as it is impossible for the cashier to keep track. We were also told by a checkout operator we should be getting two points for our large bags but we always have to ask for them.
We have also had this discussion about bags being full. I have pointed out more than once that you cannot fill any bag full of heavy stuff as you need to be able to pick it up!
The lad we had yesterday started bagging stuff in carrier bags even though we had a good stash of our own so I had to take the whole blinking lot out again. Might be why he only gave us half our points, but I will get them back one way or another.0 -
Checked the leaflet i picked up yesterday in store. It says 2points for EVERY bag you bring until 8th April, dosent mention they have to be bags for life,or full,so cashier diddled me.Will keep a close eye on this in future.0

At all Tescos I have visited over past fortnight (and trust me thats a lot!), new card dispensers have appeared at the tills for customers to take a card with them. It gives you a checklist of what you are entitled to with Green Points.
Also noted that a good numebr of stores were handing out Free Bags for Life as well lately.
I would say I have about an 80% success rate with points added first time nowadays. So no real quibbles with them. Where the staff have to use judgement is if for example some 'smart customers' decide to put just a couple of items in a huge number of bags to try and increase their entitlement. Trsut me, a lot try it!
After all, Staff are only Human so dont feel bad about politely reminding staff but don't just presume its a huge conspiracy to diddle you. Remember its not just about Clubcard points, its for the enviroment too. Considering that an avergae Metro store has saved over 125,000 bags since the scheme started, we are talking a huge huge impact.
And for the record, stores do get penalised for not adding the points - I promise you Tesco HO are checking this every month in every store for consistency.0
