Took my daughters tyre to Kwik-Fit to have a puncture repaired why do they replace the valve and re'balance it, when it had already been done 6 weeks ago.???????

  • How much is a puncture repair there?
Best to balance if tyres been off the rim.

  • £20.00 I know it's not alot, but the 5 minutes it took that's good money they can make.

Not really, the government takes the best part of £4 out of that. With the £16 odd quid left, they have to pay for all of their overheads, tax and make a small profit.

The valve is main reason wheels have to be balanced in the first place, tyre's and wheels are pretty well balanced these days (unless you buy cheap tyre's) it's that little extra weight on one side of the wheel that does it.

I'd say you were lucky they didn't try to tell you the tyre was unrepairable AND very wise not to go down in the car, else they'd have had you buying brakes and shocks too.
That or you found a half decent KF technician (but don't count on him keeping his job long).

Because unless you can guarantee to replace the tyre on the rim aligned exactly the same as it came off then it will need rebalancing.

But as a valve and balance is included in the fixed price, why are you worrying about it?

its quite easy to damage the valve seat in a fast fit tyre type place so it is best practise to change it so your tyre isnt flat in the morning, remember they only cost 10 pence trade each anyway

the tyre had to come off the bead to put the patch in. if you section the tyre and wheel and weigh it you will find the weight of each section is not the same. the valve can get damaged on some machines so its better to replace at £1 then have you come back and lose £15
