any one got a link for an example of a notice period letter, my contract finishes fairly soon.

Most companies will accept notice of cancellation by phone, though I did have to write to Vodafone several years ago. If you don't want to do it that way then something quite brief such as:

Dear Sirs

Account number 23456 - 079xx 123456

Please take this letter as 30 days notice of cancellation of contract. By my calculation service should cease on 20/03/07; please ensure that rental is charged in my next bill due 03/03/07 only up to this termination date.

Please acknowledge receipt of this notice in writing.

Yours faithfully

Some companies may have no mechanism for a part-month's rental, so you'll have to call them about it after the cutoff date.
