Royal Mail no delivery

Hi there,
I'm currently in Germany and have asked a friend in the UK to send a parcel of 1.5kg weight to me.

The parcel was sent on 7 February as "Airmail Small Packet". Well, that is the cheapest option without tracking (unfortunately!). Anyhow, according to Royal Mail's website the delivery aim is 3 to 5 working days. So I should have received my parcel by 14 February the latest (given the weekend of 11&12 February). But by now, I still have *not* received my parcel. It was supposed to be a Valentine's present (which makes it even more frustrating).

After calling Royal Mail over the phone several times, there was no real helpful advice given to me other than to put in a claim in 3 weeks time.

Has anyone experienced any delay in sending parcels from the UK to Germany, too?

Is it unusual to wait more than a week to receive such a parcel?!

Thanks!

Its quite possible that Royal Mail have done thier part and your parcel is now in the hands of the German postal system.

Having said that, its not unusual for parcels to take more than a week to be delivered from one address to the other within the UK.

I'd give it a bit more time.

I had to go to Germany to change a PC motherboard a few years back. The board was sent a week before I was due to leave. The day before I was due to fly out I called to find the board had still not turned up. I got in touch with RM and found the board had already been received by Deutsche Post so I got the flight hoping I could chase it up from that end. No such luck, I wasted 6 days there chasing it and all I could get from DP was that it was in transit.

On the 7th day I got a flight home. It was a further 3 weeks after I received a call to say the board had just arrived with the customer.
  • By now (23 February), my friend has contacted me saying that the parcel was returned to him and the reason was "unknown address": the parcel left the UK, arrived in Germany and got returned to the UK because of an "unknown address".

However, the address he put on the parcel *IS* correct!

Hence, I phoned Royal Mail yesterday. They apologized and said that most likely German post made a mistake. My friend should take it back to the post office and would get the postage refunded. And then he could resend it.

So my friend went to the post office again today. But they refused to give him a refund and allowed him to resend with the old stamp. Also he was told that the main post office might stop the parcel if they think a new stamp is required.

Now, I'm really anxious of losing the parcel and I phoned Royal Mail again. Today I was told that the information I received yesterday was wrong! There is no way that Royal Mail would refund the postage. Furthermore, the most likely thing that would happen is that my parcel is going to be stopped and sent to Belfast to get destroyed!!! The next likely thing (but still unlikely) that it would get sent back to my friend. And the *least* likely thing that it would get to Germany eventually.

    ARRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Can someone help me or give any advice of how to deal with this?! Never had so frustrating experience with Royal Mail!

well for starters.why do you keep referring to RM?
Deutche Post returned the package,so it is they who decided the address was incorrect
why would you think RM should now give free postage?
they sent the package out, they returned it.
    honestly,what goes through peoples heads

It can also be that they haven't recognised the address as we write 7s different to you, is there a 7 or a 1 in your address?

Seems pretty reasonable to me that RM should refund the postage, the sender paid them to deliver the package, it wasn't delivered through no fault of the sender, therefore RM have failed to fulfil their side of the contract. It would then be up to them to recover the money from DP. Although I'm sure your ex-employers will be well covered by legislation excusing them from the normal rules of doing business.

    nope,RM met their responsibilites
DeutchePost have deemed the address incorrect
or do you think someone not being able to write an address means they get free services
The OP hasnt seen the packet, have you?
since DP returned it,it seems to me theres an issue with the address

Well, I cannot understand your hostile undertone. Please read my post more carefully. It was Royal Mail on the phone who told me to request a refund from the post office yesterday!

Actually, are all phone calls recorded? I have the exact time and date when I called Royal Mail. Can I request to retrieve the record? That would prove that I have been given wrong information by Royal Mail...

I have been in touch with the friend who sent my the parcel.
The address was written clearly in capital letters to avoid any confusion. He had problems with Royal Mail in the past so he is very careful when it comes to sending parcels overseas.

The address didn't have any 7's in it. So that cannot be a source of mistakes.

but if DP are returing it,how exactly do you see RM sorting that?
do you plan on them chartering a flight out. Pat gets sent of with taxi fare in Euros?
