Is it odd for the groom not to have a wedding ring?

However, are people going to think it's really weird if we don't have one for the wedding? I know at one time it wasn't that unusual for it just to be the bride that has a ring but most married men I know wear one these days - albeit those guys all have office jobs.
why would anyone think its weird if either of you didnt wear a ring....its not as if you'll be less married if he or you dont wear onefrugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I dont want a ring as no doubt I will lose it (I am male by the way). When I train, we all have to take off all jewellery for safety, just last week someone lost their wedding ring (although after everyone spending hours trying to find it for him, he found it the next day at the bottom of his bag).
The WTB wants me to have one though, so I will get one for the ceremony but prob not wear it after that, unless I am going on a lads night out, and the wife will prob want me to wear it lol. Dont worry about a ring if you or your partner does not want one, your married, you have the certificate so why prove it further with a ring, a wedding is about the promises you make to each other, thats the important thing, long as you both mean them promises, then thats all that matters.
Apparently the ring is a old tradition of back in the cave men days, where the male would knock out a mate, and drag her back to the cave. Once he had his way with her at the cave he would tie her up so she would not escape. Although the women could not escape, she was not much use tied up, so as the male trusted her more, he would reduce the restriction (i.e. free her when he was home etc), until finally the women was no longer restricted. However the male would tie a piece of rope to a single finger, so that she would be reminded of who she belongs to. True Story!!!0 -

Don't get me wrong, I am happy with him not having a ring, saves money after all and given I am going to wind up paying for everything (long story) I don't mind that at all.
Was as much wondering if I was likely to get a funny reaction from the person marrying us but sounds like it's not that unusual anyway so thanks all :-)0 -
my hubby didn't have a ring. it is more common than you think.
my dad did, he and my mum have been married 39 years and I have never seen him wear it!
Oddly, I have a ring but don't wear it either!0 -
My oh is a joiner and it isn't safe for him to wear a ring but he wanted one. So we have got a lovely ring which he can wear when we go out etc. It's his bit of bling! Plus we used Tesco vouchers so only cost £50!

My dad had one early on in my parents marriage but one accident at work and it ended up having to be cut off him, and he's not worn one since. He worked in engineering and spends a lot of his spare time doing woodwork, so again, always getting dirty / rather more potential for accidents than if working in an office.
Oh well, if my OH changes his mind and decides he wants one then it sounds like we don't have to break the bank on it anyway, so not too big a deal either way.0 -
Price William didn't have a wedding ring last year, so probably not odd - as long as you are happy with it, then that's all that matters.0

So he didn't - completely forgot that. Too distracted by that lovely dress!
I think deep down I was worried that people might be judging if he didn't have one - like thinking he was the cheating type who didn't want to have a tan line to hide when he removed his ring when out on the pull.
I don't really know why I thought that - my friends aren't remotely the judgmental types and I'm usually more than capable of ignoring family if they turn their nose up at anything. And why I should care what the person performing the wedding thinks is beyond me.
I wouldn't be marrying him if I thought he was that kind of person and that's all that really matters.
Perhaps I need to chill out a bit.....0 -
I have been married 21 years and my DH has never worn a ring. One of his friends nearly lost a finger when he got his ring caught in a train window and because of that my DH has never wanted to wear one.
My first husband wore a ring and it didn't stop him having an affair with someone else. She was well aware he was married and so was she, in her case with two children. If they are that way inclined a ring isn't going to stop them anyway.
As for what other people think about your DH not wearing a ring. If you are both happy then that is all that matters, never mind what anyone else thinks. In 21 years, as far as I am aware no-one has ever commented about the fact my DH doesn't wear a ring.0
