Guys, seriously, a simple 'no, we don't know' would have done (or not reply!)

    :T

Hey look, smart git, if you don't like the advice you get on here, you know the answer, don't you?

You didn't give me any advice though... just claimed I was mad, assumed you knew my personal circumstances and from that assumed I would be worse off.

I simply asked a question, you didn't answer it, but made a wild assumption about the insurance cover I currently have in place.

I'm not a "smart git" - but see a lot of folk on many forums who like the sound of their own voice and post for postings sake. I can see why your post count is so high though....

    Thanks....

I am c£600 better off based on the allowance I get, the ppm paid and an excellent MPG from the car(s) I've chosen since opting out , the BIK reduction (Little choice on cars within the company scheme - got to take a fuel card - and I work from home. Every mile I do is business pretty much).

In 10 years I've never been without a car due to breakdown or accident - and doubt I ever will but am trying to plan a contingency.

Looks like there aren't any insurance type policies to cover for this - but a recent email from our HR director made it clear that while company car drivers get replacement cars through the leasing company, anyone who has opted out need to fend for themselves. Just got me thinking...

Looks like if it does happen, as suggested, just a case of shopping around - but ideally making sure the garage will supply a courtesy car.

    Appreciate your response...

I understand how you are so much better off, I have recently took a promotion as a 12 month secondment and was offered a company car. The car in question is a 1.4 diesel fiesta, I've opted to stick with my 1.7 diesel civic for now, MPG is better, and it's more comfortable for me. I'm out £80 per month for my insurance, however this last month i've used £150 fuel but have been paid £600 in expenses on my 45p per mile, so I'm over £350 up. my insurance is high as I'm a young male, i guess a few more no claims etc and it would be more profitable.

being a MSE i am saving my extra salary and profit from mileage, and at the end of the year if the job is made permanent (which I'm told is likely) I will buy myself a new car, either a newer civic, or an Accord Tourer, if i pick up a 2-3 yr old one it will last a good few years. If i have to go back to my old job, well ill have a few thousand saved for a rainy day...

You only get 45p/mile for the first 10000 miles pa. you are doing considerably more than that, so the extra will be taxable.
You have also ignored all the other costs including extra depreciation (every 1000 miles more on the clock will knock a % off the resale value), tyres, servicing and repairs.
