Tenancy Deposit - additional way for LL to scheme register a deposit

Interestingly, in the recent Annual Review ( for 2011-2012) TDS said:During 2011-12, the Tenancy Deposit Scheme closed over 10,000 deposit disputes and the proportion of disputed deposits awarded to landlords and tenants was about equal. This parity comes from a gradual increase in the number of awards made to landlords and a decline in the tenant’s share. This is mainly attributable to an increasing awareness among landlords and agents of the type of evidence needed to succeed in a claim against a tenant’s deposit.0

Hi again. Original poster here. As you lot seem to know what you are talking about, can I pick your brains further please?
I have a tenant now and have just set up a deposit scheme with the DPS. I paid the deposit by debit card and it seemed to go through. What now? Do the DPS tell my tenant the deposit details (I had to put in her mobile number and email address) or is it my responsibility? I cant find much info online. IF its mine, what do I tell her?
Thank you!0 -

You need to find the part of the DPS site regarding the "prescribed information". Providing this to the tenant is your responsibility and part of the deposit protection requirements so you must do this. Print off (several pages not just a single certificate), and post first class with proof of posting to the tenant. Keep your proof, as if there is ever any dispute about tenant not receiving the PI, you need this!
I believe the DPS do contact the tenant direct to provide them with their own log-in ID and passwords, but you still need to forward the PI to comply with the regs.
See this page for all the info and where to find and print the PI:
