  • I strongly disagree. Both Egg Money and Citibank (before Egg got bought and sold by Citibank, and surprise surprise bought by Barclays) tried this before albeit with no specific purpose in mind other than "enabling customers to see all their accounts in one place". In this crazy world I would no more trust another bank than I would a rabid dog.

    ...

I may be being a tad pedantic here but . . . Egg didn't get sold by Citibank and bought by Barclays.

"Egg" still exists in it's own right (for now . . . Yorkshire Building Society has actually bought it (and by 'it' that's the brand and the remaining customer base of Savings, loans and a hand full of mortgage customers)) . . . what Citi sold was the portfolio of Egg Credit Card customers . . . and that was sold to Barclaycard (not Barclays Bank) - credit card business only - no Debit accounts.

Egg's product "enabling customers to see all their accounts in one place" was 'Egg Money Manager' and nothing like the Pingit concept . . . it was pretty much the functionality that First Direct offer currently under their "internet banking plus" product . . .

Egg did once have a way of sending money by email mind you but the demise of the business gives you a clue as to the success of that one . . .
  • Agree with a previous poster that a Windows 7 app would be good.
  • Barclays twitter feed states that they are working on an app for mobile banking and it'll be released soon.

I'm talking about the Pingit app that is available - released for iPhone, Android but not for Windows Phone. I assume (hope) when other banks release their own version of Pingit that Windows Phone versions will be released.

Currently 'ordinary' mobile banking can be done using the web browser, but the instant option to transfer small sums just using the mobile number is not.

Glad (and fairly surprised) to hear it's free.
But it's not _really_ doing anything that you couldn't do if you could access internet banking from your phone.

What I think would be better, however, is a way to send money to someone when they are out. For example, my wife went to Asda the other day and then realised she'd forgotten her wallet. Would have been good if I could have somehow transfered money to her. Maybe such a system could send a barcode or something to her phone.

    Blimey, that was quick!

    Hi
I've just downloaded the pingit Barclaycard app to my iPhone and noticed it sets you up a Barclaycard Wallet prepaid type bank account complete with sort code & account number. Would I be correct in thinking as well as pingit payments can this account be used to received normal payments via faster payment using its sort code and account number ?
    Thanks if you can advise
