Lenovo warranty rip-off

Lenovo's whole warranty is a joke. Within 3 months my laptop from them (which ironically I really love as a product) broke. The only way to get it fixed is to send it back to them at my cost.
This is agains the UK SOGA as any repairs have to be done at their cost. However they seem ignorant of the UK law.
Luckily I bought the laptop with credicard and have opened a scetion 75 against them for breach of contract. (loads of great info on MSE about section 75). Once I've won, I will publicise the hell out of this in an attempt to get them to change their illegal UK warranty policy. A shame they're so appalling at customer service, as their product really are pretty decent (although I'll never buy from them again).0 -

Really? What type of warranty did you have? Are you relying on the standard manufacturer's warranty or did you buy one?
I bought their enhanced 3-year next business day plan which includes accidental damage. They either come and fix the problem the next day or collect my laptop (free of charge, they send a courier) and take it away to be repaired.
The only annoyance is (1) that I've had 3 faults in 11 months (which is not good enough in my book!) and (2) the weird distinction they draw between which they can come and take care of (replacement keyboard) and which you have to mail off for (missing feet; broken yellow plastic mains power receiver in back of laptop). That said, all three faults have been fixed fine so far.0 -
I bought directly from Lenovo and didn't buy any warranty beyond what they provided.
The main issue here is that their own standard warranty doesn't meet the minimum requirements of the UK SOGA.
It's critical to remember that companies can only enhance your statutory rights - they can't detract from them (whatever the wording of their warranty!)
I don't neccessarily blame the Lenovo staff as they're only following their warranty policy/procedures - it's whoever compiled the warranty who is to blame. Call me cycnical, but you'd hope that someone dealeing with warranty legalities would very much be clued up on UK consumer law, and this is a blatant attempt to try and contravene this, based on consumer ignorance of their own rights...0 -

If the manufacturer of the goods provides a free guarantee with the goods, this creates a contractual obligation by the guarantor. If it fails to honour the guarantee, you could sue the manufacturer for the promises it makes. A guarantee is in addition to your rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. In some circumstances, you may have a claim under the guarantee, but find that a claim under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 would be difficult to prove, or vice versa. You may also in some circumstances have a claim against both, and therefore have a choice of who to claim against. If you are unsure seek advice from Citizens Advice.
A trader or manufacturer is under no obligation to provide a guarantee, and if they do, they can specify any time span, for example six months, twelve months or three years. They can also specify what is to be covered by the guarantee, and exclude certain parts, or wear and tear.
