I went over to the scooter festival last bank holiday August. You should be able to get accommodation towards the south of the island. I stayed at a B&B in Ventnor, which was nice and peaceful. However, I'm not sure how good public transport is on the island (I just happened to know about the Greyhound service I mentioned), I went over there on my motorbike, which has handy as you could explore the island and go around at your own convenience. Red funnel ferries were doing deals on motorbikes/scooters for the festival as well. Don't know if you ride a bike/scooter, if you do, it's worth considering.
