Ok call me dumb but I just have to ask as I cant work it out myself....

With all the children and babies suffering from malnutrician and disease etc why dont they just stop having kids and sort their own country out first?

Is it some beleif system or cultural necessity to have children?

Im not commenting on the women who are raped or forced to have children for whatever reason.

I just dont get how they can keep on about how bad it is yet not deal with one of the key issues to educate them and help stop it getting even worse. They beg for zillions of pounds in donations and charity money over the years and years since it was made aware of the suffering yet the situation to me appears to have not changed or what little change is hardly noticable or touched the surface.

The water aid pumps they put in and the vaccines and hospital treatments help yes but they dont deal with the source of the problems to stop the issues or suffering in the first place. They could deal with famine by zeroing the debt and helping them to get better and they could stop having kids who are obciously going to suffer for their short lives ???

Perhaps I am just too naieve?

Sorry if this has offended anyone but vent over.

    Yes.

Catholicism (which is quite common in some parts of the world) forbids use of contraception, resulting in more births.

Also, if you're somewhere where infant mortality is high, and money is low, you will want to have more children to increase the chances that they will live to an age where they can work and earn more money for the family. And the more working children, the more money.

OMG you have just solved the world's problems!

Why don't you insist on sterilisation for all the poor of this world? That would solve the problem!

    Yes. Perhaps you are.

It's a complicated issue but, for the most part, people who do not have much/any money are not excused from the normal, evolved, human imperative to procreate.

    Interesting question.

We are incessently bombarded with harrowing images, yet the countries concerned have no difficulty in maintaining large armies, all of which are invariably well fed and equipped.

We are told that the 'famine' has been going on for, say '5 years', yet one can often see a 'starving' family with children aged, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

One might also reflect on the interesting fact that when starvation has taken hold, women stop menstruating.

  • I cant have children myself due to fertility issues but I think the question I asked is created from the fact I dont understand how anyone would deliberately have a child knowing its going to grow up suffering or in a place where the main water source is infested to a point its going to impact on their childs health.

Thanks Whitehorse, Azari and Esqui for your nice explanitory replies they do help me to see it in a way I hadnt considered.

Sorry again to be so naieve and ask a stupid question. :)

there is no such thing as a stupid question ... it's something you have obviously tried to work out and was looking for input ... no harm in that :)

Thank you this is very true and the way I learn and understand is to ask questions. Sometimes this learning curve involves seeing other peoples perspectives, ideas and views. I respect them all and often get a chance at some point to pass my new knowledge to someone else :)

I thought something similar when I last saw the tv advert.

As well as all the water filters etc, a few truckloads of condoms would not go amiss.
