Only if you amputate all four legs so the dog can't put himself in the same room as the bin.

Which would be a little more drastic than most of us would contemplate.

dog in house bin in garage simples

my mum used to have a problem with the dog eating/playing with the rubbish it doesnt now though
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you
  • Ive got a Brabantia pedal bin...with a breeze block on top!

My lovely lurcher can get into most bins, but as its metal, she can't chew through, and the brick stops her lifting the lid- yes she can operate the pedal, I've seen it with my own eyes!

The additional weight makes it more difficult to knock over, although I would advise having it in a corner if possible. She notices straight away if I have been foolish enough to leave the block off, but pays no attension if its in place.

Not ideal but works for us!
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before

So putting the rubbish outside, rather than in the kitchen, as previously suggested. (As you no doubt appreciate, not everybody has a garage).

Building a garage to keep a bin in is roughly around the same likelihood as performing quadruple amputations on the dog.

Taking the rubbish out is so much easier.

I found the big 50l Brabantia touch-top bin was Lab-proof! Now all I need to figure out is how to make my recycling caddy Maine Coon-proof.

Paint it a different colour. Guaranteed that when the MC flumps her way back into the kitchen, she'll go 'OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!! DIFFERENT!!!!!! SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!' in cat language and run away in terror.

I was going to suggest this one. It would have to be a very dexterous pooch that manages to get into one of these!

The bins with lids that open in the middle are the only dog proof bins I have ever come across. My friend fosters rescues, so she has lots of dogs coming through, and not one has managed to break into it......yet! Not cheap tho......

We have one persistent bin-raider. Broke the habit by getting the simplehuman slide lock one someone posted earlier, and remembering to take it out (it's like a teeny tiny wheelie bin in design) whenever we went out of the house and left the dogs in the kitchen. That was enough to break the cycle of him regarding it as a rather large fragrant Kong for him to puzzle his way into... then when we got the second dog (a greyhound incidentally so I know the scourge of the pointy nose only too well) - her policy of "everything's mine gerroff it" got put into place over the bin she had no hope of getting in - so he's not allowed anywhere near it for fear of the wrath of pointy anyway!
