Should I complain? *Updated*

I just bought this: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-g6-1241sa-refurbished-15-6-laptop-red-12263569-pdt.html
I'm aware it's a refurb, I've bought refurbished stuff before so I know it won't come in original packaging etc. But I was kind of annoyed to find it came like this:

Just the laptop, in a large box! No padding whatsoever, it was rattling around, when I signed for it I thought there was a box within the box, not just the laptop bashing around! There is a good 3 inches between the laptop and the lid of the box, as well as the massive gaps between laptop and sides of box...
(notice the fact that the BATTERY is in bubble wrap...but not the laptop??)
So I checked it over and noticed this:

The panel on the back was sticking up, so much so I could see the insides of the laptop. I clicked it back down again and inserted the battery pack.
I've set it all up and everything seems fine with it though, no issues that I can tell so far. But I can't help thinking about how much it must have bashed around in the box, delivery guys are not gentle! Should I complain? What would I get if I did, would they replace it? I doubt it cause it's not faulty...

I'd say if it still works it will probably be ok. Make sure you give the hard drive and optical drive (if fitted ) a good test. It might be worth giving customer services a quick email anyway though (with your pictures attached) - you never know you might get something out of it and even if not you might have better comeback if there is a problem.0

Usually the plastic sheeting is stuck very firmly to the bottom of the box, holding the hardware completely immobile.
At least that's what Amazon does sometimes. It means they can reduce the number of sizes of box they need and don't need any bubblewrap or polystyrene 'worms' as packing.
Quite a good solution, IMHO!0 -
It does sound like a good idea, but there was nothing sticking the laptop to the bottom of the box in my case. There was nothing on the box or on the laptop at all except the plastic film covering the lid of the laptop.
Have emailed them, and the pictures too. Not getting too attached just in case they want it back to replace it (wishful thinking :rotfl:)0 -
If it works & is undamaged I can't see why they would replace it0

My personal opinion is that the laptop looks damaged, and I'd be requesting a refund or replacement so I could get an intact properly packaged device. It might work now but it may have been damaged in transit the symptoms of which might not be apparent straight away.0

-peers in- is the bottom of the laptop okay? can't tell if that's sitting right or not (my eyes are pants!)
Either way I think it's good to have fired off an e-mail, because as it's already been mentioned, not all damage will kick in immediately or be visible to the eye - so if something was to go wrong, say tomorrow, then you could show much easier that it wasn't appropriately packaged and that you did raise concern over it, even if they initially don't intend to do anything.
Mostly though, if it is good, working order, then there will be no need for them to change it around or do more about it than apologise for the mishap.0 -
I agree that you should send an email, the reply (if you get one!) will be instructive. If they give you a load of guff about being 'fit for purpose, sold as refurbished, etc.,' completely irrelevant. But you will have a document (electronic or not) to hang a case on, if it goes wrong. And you DO have a 12 month warranty.
I have had a HP Pavilion DV7 for 18 months now. It's great, works perfectly (fingers crossed here!) and i love it. However, first thing I ddid when the warranty ran out, was remove all the HP software and reinstall Windows. If you ever want to know how to do this, it is not difficult, just ask on this forum for instructions.
That does sound like a fair price for what you have, providing it stays working well. If it is going to fail, it will do so in the first month, usually.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Result!
I have received a reply from customer services offering me a replacement!
However, I'm not sure whether I can accept their offer, as I have (obviously) started it up (to see if it worked) and in starting it up, had to register, set it up as mine etc, install mozilla.... I don't want to send it back only to have them say 'Well, you've used it now!' But it was damaged when I received it...so a bit of a dilemma!
I would rather have a replacement then sit and wait for it to break to be honest... My partner also took off the protective film on the top lid so would that be an issue too??
Don't want to send it back for them to send it back to me because I used it! Although I did say in my email that I had booted it up... Agh not sure what to do now!0 -
Restore it to Factory Settings.0

It should have a restore partition, allowing it to be reset to factory settings.

I'd be very surprised if they rejected it due to the plastic film having been removed. How do I add a signature?0
