Applied for a contract phone through mobile.co.uk originally with network 3, failed the check but got told as never had a contract phone before to go with orange sim contract and after 3 months i can upgrade to any phone.... is that true or is it a case of sounds too good to be true? lol

Well....it isn't the usual way for getting a first ever contract (all customers have to be newbies to begin with)!

If you know why you failed, then can you put it right yourself?

Otherwise, get them to put in writing that if you run a SIM only contract for 3 months they will let you upgrade like this. (And what the "upgrade" will cost you!)

Don't see how you would build up a credit??

I suppose you could talk to Orange and offer a deposit for a contract, but using a SIM contract doesn't result in a credit building up!

once you have an Orange account,it a lot easier to get products
I sort out upgrades etc online without doing credit checks
siimply by putting my Orange account number in
so i would think having a valid and up to date rolling contract couldnt hurt

With an orange sim contract you pay a monthly fee, but no credit remains if you don't "use" all your allowance!

THe only way to get a credit on the account would be by arranging for them to take a deposit off you.

If you could do that, then maybe they'd let you have a contract with a phone from the outset??

Like any mobile contract, sim-only contract is normally reported to CRAs and hence it can help to build a positive credit history and improve the credit scoring results - and not only with Orange.

That said, I think that 'upgrading' after 3 months, even if allowed, will be so expensive that it makes no sense to hold breath for it. Good deals are kept for the new customers and those who are about to leave.

How do you build up any credit? (Unless you give them a sum as a deposit)

i would think a 30 day rolling contract would make more sense
then its possible to take a new contract and cancel the sim only
