JUNK MAIL Campaign

Fed up with junk mail? Yes I know you can have the post office barr certain mail from the letter box, but what is more fun is sending it back to them. I have been doing this for ages, and so have many others.
Next time you get junk mail you did not request, send the return envelope back to them.
a) It means the company pays the postage.
b) It keeps the local postie in a job.
c) Sooner or later it must aggravate the company's sorting office.
Either way it will take a while so join the club and get posting

On the other hand, save yourself some time and save wastage in the environment by stopping it in the first place.
I don't believe this sort of action from a minority will do anything.
1) Sign up for the mailing preferences service (MPS) this will stop most junk mail
2) write to the royal mail "door-to-door opt outs" address to stop your postman putting leaflets through the door.
3) if you want to stop local companies then put a notice on your front door
4) Make sure you tick the box (or untick it) for not wanting junk mail when you sign up for anything
5) don't give anyone your address unnecessarily i.e. only for things you really want, they are all just buying your details.
This will be much more effective and help to save the planet.0 -
What annoys me is that the Royal Mail actually encourage companies to send junk mail. They put junk which isn't addressed and presumably the postman puts it through all doors in certain areas. >:(
How much do they make from doing this?
How can we stop it if the service which delivers our mail likes to make money out of sending us junk.0 -

The address to write to is:

Royal mail make at least £9 million a year from Door to door mail. Your Postie makes alittle over 1p per item delivered. This little taxable 'bonus' is concidered as a perk of the job by Royal Mail, yet most Posties concider them as a pain in the neck. Do as Lisyloo says and contact your local postal delivery office and opt out from dooor to doors.I'm back after a break :money:0

Funny, serious and how to potentially make money out of the companies who send you junk mail HERE
DMA(direct marketing association) have details on:
How to Control Your Post

Baby MPS (for people who have had a still-born or miscarriage not to receive any baby related post)
Telephone Preference Service

for both businesses and consumers.
And finally - to stop receiving unaddressed leaflets delivered by the Royal Mail you can write to:
Royal Mail Door-to Door Service

Another one to add is to make sure you are not on the "edited" register on the electoral role.
There are two forms of the electoral register, one is the full register which is available to certain authorities e.g. the police. You cannot remove yourself from this one.
However the "edited" register is available to everyone and a number of companies use this to send direct mail.
So make sure you put an "X" in the box to be excluded from the edited register.
I have taken these steps and we actually get very little junk mail.
If your postman is off sick and you get someone new then it might happen but it is still greatly reduced.0 -
Where do I access this 'edited register' to unsubscribe junk mails? Half my mails are junk. Particularly with Christmas coming, there are a lot of junk advts falling in my letterbox.
Thanks.Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is yellow tonight,
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is mellow and bright,
There’s a coyote crying at the moon above,
Carry me back to the one I love,
And you old faithful pal of mine.0 -
I would first suggest signing up with the mailing preferences service here
http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/
To update your details on the electoral register then you can download the form here
http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/
Note that you need to send this to your local authority (details can be found on the same site).
I would definitely suggest taking other steps as well like the MPS as not all junk mail comes from the electoral register.0 -
Junk mail accounts for 3/4 of Royal Mail's business. When I say junk also includes stuff like bills!
I used to religiously send junk mail back to sender until was warned not to by the OFT. If you send stuff back it only tells the sender that theres someone at the address so they'll keep on sending it. Worse they'll sell your details to another company.
There is also another school of thought that with these foreign prize draws Canadian etc they are able to buy mailing lists from the UK. So even though the MPS can't stop the foreign companies iit's well worth signing up to stop this from happening.:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0
