Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 15th February. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
I managed to make 8 jars of marmalade yesterday & make 6 new candles form all the old bits & pieces I had saved, I added a piece of broken purple wax crayon so they are a lovely colour, I'll add a pic to my blog later.
Today I'm going to try & finish a bean bag, my DD wants 2, I went round 3 CS's yesterday but I couldn't find any curtains to use for the outer covers ( I only have enough for 1 bean bag). Today I am going to a 4 CS in the opposit direction to have a look there.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • Morning Hester and all to follow

Much milder here in Essex and virtually all the snow is now gone :j

Totally non OS day yesterday - had to go into meetings and work and lost the whole day. The only sort of money saving I did was to get 2 starbucks for the price of one :D

Kitchen is a mess, as is the rest of the house as the kids were home alone so this morning am getting essential office work done and then hit the housework then think we are off to the cinema to watch The Muppet Movie. Have a chicken from the freezer which I will just roast on potatoes, carrots, onions and garlic and that is dinner sorted. Love one pot meals.

Hope you all have a great day.x

No frost here and snow is has nearly gone. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Was reasonably productive again yesterday, washing basket was empty last night and now has clothes in it again! WM will go on before I go into work shortly. Only working until lunch then on days off until Monday.

Need to organise something for dinner, not sure what we'll be having yet.

    Take it steady everyone x

Morning Hester, Essex Girl, nmlc and everyone who follows,

Thank you for all your get well wishes yesterday. The sinusitis has eased a bit today thanks.

Hugs to Rebecca, Wuvvies, Sunflower, LW, Lou and Molly.

Wuvvies hope that things get sorted out quickly, it is obvious that you did nothing wrong.

LW I did consider rescuing the snowman's carrot for soup but changed my mind when I saw a blackbird pecking it.:D

Rebecca hope that you are feeling brighter today, please talk to a doctor about how you are feeling.

Hi to JackieG. I have also been wondering why we haven't heard from Butterfly Brain.

Am having a big tidy up and clear up this week, not helped by the children, I am sure that they make mess quicker than I can tidy it up.
My retired friend said to me that I shouldn't tidy up until the children have left home!

I made a big sausage pasta bake yesterday so there should be some of that left for tea.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Good morning all.
It's a bit windy here today but it is dry. We did have a fair bit of rain yesterday.
Managed to get loads of washing done yesterday so have the job of ironing it. Girls are still in bed, so will get it done later.
Hester, the candles are a beautiful colour.
Tea tonight is cottage pie, from the freezer with veg and roast potatoes. Nice and easy.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning all!!! Well Beamish was lovely yesterday - but I could have done without the tantrums from DS1. Anyway, plenty of tram rides, saw sweeties being made (and tasted them!) and bought some handles for my dresser from the General store. They were re-enacting a miners strike so we went to the "riot" when the police turfed one person out of their house. There were only 6 staff there who were taking the part of the protestors, but there were maybe 100 people who were very half hearted. Although we weren't jostled at all I suddenly had the frightening feeling of what could happen in a riot - very scary.

We didn't have the fish and chips - after the man on the tram told me that last year it was £6.90 for coal fired fish and chips. They needed to be coated in gold for that price!! We had a great time - albeit a bit cold - brrrrrr.

Today the boys are off to the play scheme and I'll finish cleaning the house, catching up with washing (it was muddy at Beamish!!) and ironing - what a glamourous life I lead!!!! Tomorrow we're off for lunch at mums, but I'll take the boys on the train as a bit more of an adventure!

Hugs to Wuvvies - get angry - no one should speak to you like that - specially as they're a member of staff - how would they like it? Rebecca - have you been to the DRs?
    xx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

  • Hi all
Bit of a result, I decided to make a start on tidying my craft room & found enough fabric to cover the 2nd bean bag. I've listed a couple of things on ebay, a pair of boots & a pair of shoes that don't fit. Tea tonight is chicken ham & pasta bake, with LO roast chicken from Monday night.
    How horrible BB.
Thanks FS I'm pleased with them.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all, cloudy and dull here today but sun is trying to come out. Dog is still feeling poorly and I can't even get him to take his tablet. Will see how he is later, might be a trip back to the vet. I am going to go into my drawer of doom and sort out paperwork: my pet hate. DH had success with reclaiming PPI on a loan so I'm going to give it a go with the guide from this site.
Hugs to Wuvvie, Sunflower, LW and Molly. Well done to Lou and her DS on another dry night. Rebecca hope you manage to speak to midwife or health visitor.
    HH love those candles.
Hugs to anyone else who needs one. Need to get going and find something for dinner. Have a good day all.
