Never mind you've just given me an idea as we have a surplus of mushrooms from the veggie box and can only use them slowly as the boys aren't keen on them . Little and often and they won't notice !!

Ive certainly found that removing them from the plastic box and getting them away from that cling film makes them last much longer as they sweat less.
My dad ( who works with veg!) says that the best thing is the humble brown paper bag in somewhere cool & dry. . failing that I tend to find a pyrex or similar put some kitchen paper in the bottom lay mushroms on, then put brown paper over the top nad secure with elaastic band. take care not to put them to the back of the fridge as once theyve part frozen and defrosted they tend to go slimy & spongy. saying that they wont kill you and are fine for a chilli/ spag bol etc, even when they are 'past thier best' Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I take them out of the wrappings and put them in a collander lined with kitchen roll and then cover them with another piece of kitchen roll and they keep for days.
Or if I am not going to use them in any other recipes I slice them and freeze them - Great for Bolognaise , Stews, Stir -Fries and the likeBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Just want to say thank you for all the suggestions. Now I know that they freeze I shall definitely get some stashed in the freezer.
I took them out of the packet yesterday, but that was all. I felt soooo poorly. I'll see what I can salvage later. I can work round this.
Many thanks for all help - definitely appreciated.Always another chapter0 -
I thought the best way was to store in a brown paper bag in the fridge but I have just found this and wondered if any members had tried it.

that's interesting - no, but I might have a go when I next get some.
I suppose it's the lack of oxygen that's preventing them from going off sooner.
Probably better to make sure they're completely dry before bottling.;)0 -
They have been dehydrated so that is why they are in a jar.
I keep mushrooms in a colander with a layer of kitchen towel and then another on top and between the mushrooms, this way they keep for a good three or four days and no need to put them in the fridge.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Those ones don't appear to make been dried - I keep them for a week or more in the box they came in but with the film removed and never have any problemsPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Nope, they have not been dehydrated, just sliced, not even washed as that would add moisture.0
