  • Just spoke to the owner and off to see at 9.30 am tomorrow. Pretty sure that I will get it, I've had my heart set on a car with aircon and this is in budget and with it being Japanese with a good service history should do me for a few years.
I would post the link but I am paranoid that someone else will beat me to it!

Don't expect the air con to work.

As in broke beyond repair or just needs re-gassing?
    I believe a re-gas is a bout £40.

It's Japanese in the sense it was made in Swindon, and is the same car as the Rover 600, so I wouldn't set your heart on that too much.
But it was a Japanese design overall.

    Check the aircon works.

    They're good cars though.

Nope, that was the previous generation.

After that Honda went it's own way with this Accord (the one that the OP is looking at).

And Rover went with the BMW 75 collabaration.

Check the production dates of the later Accord and Rover 75 and you'll see they match.

The split from Rover (with Honda) began in Jan 1994 as soon as BMW bought it. Obviously the Rover 600/Accord tie up was already in production, but that was the last. By 1998 Honda had it's new Accord and Rover had its 75 early the following year.

I only do about 40 miles per week so mpg is not a huge priority. Want I want is something solidly built that has been looked after with some toys on it. I will do one or two 150+ mile journey a year. I will go in at £400.

you need to think carefully before you go in this low because you may offend the seller to the point he wont deal with you
if you read his advert you will see in his opinion he is giving it away and believes its well worth the asking price
view the car and if you really want it suss the seller before you bid, remember as i say you may offend him by offering 25% less than he wants
    me?
i wouldnt sell you it at any price if you went in that low, i often refuse sales because i know it will sell tomorrow and money only wears a hole in your pocket the longer its sat in it, i also take great delight when punter comes back all cocky with the you will take my money now attitude and i delight in saying oh that one its sold

just my take on the situation

Rover stopped the platform in the Uk in 1999, but the Japanese didn't.
The european accord ran with Rover partner platform until the seventh generation in 2003, then it became the same as the Japanese model.
The sixth generation was different to the Japanese accord until then.

    But still a good car.

Scarily enough, I think the same on this.

If it's as described, has decent tyres, and the paint looks good, I would maybe try £450 as the lowest offer.
If there is anything obvious needs sorting, that's different though.

I first saw it two weeks ago @ £599 and by coincidence found it advertised again tonight at the new lower price. To be fair I think that £499 is a reasonable price. I have just been to have a drive by and the chap had on his drive with the engine running and the bonnet up, does anyone have recommendation of what I should be looking at tomorrow? I will check the oil, the filler cap for mayo, try all the electrics, the paperwork, have the air con go from hot to cold- any other suggestions?
