    On the phone or online with your debit card maybe, but they can't stop you forcing an FP though from your bank, and probably won't reject a BT payment from another provider, that slightly overpays the balance.

    I once had a customer at British Gas wondering if he could pay £2k upfront for his gas bill. When questioned by my supervisor it turned out he was going through a divorce and wanted to hide his cash around various service companies! Turns out they didnt allow it at the time (17yrs ago), not sure now though.
