I heard nothing until the welcome pack arrived. Not even an email acknowledgement. Very disconcerting, because I couldn't be certain that I'd actually submitted the application.

I didn't get a welcome pack, I just got a card about a week after I applied for the account. PIN followed about 5 days later.
  • The same happened to me. A debit card turned up on my door step a few days later. Poor communication, but was happy with the speed everything was sent.
  • Sorry to high jack this thread but what's the difference between the Halifax Rewards Current Account and the Ultimate Rewards Current Account? I know that the Ultimate account gives Insurance benefits but it seems at no extra cost, is this the case?

Also as a higher rate tax payer would I need to fill out a tax form every year for the £5 I receive each month?

You pay them £15 per month for the 'benefits'.

As a higher rate taxpayer, you will have to pay extra tax on all your interest (it will only have 20% deducted at source). That includes these rewards payments.

I got an A4 size white envelope with brochures and T&C and a sample signature form to return. I think it was about 9 days after I applied.

That was followed separately by a debit card, and a PIN, and a new online username which I didn't need, and a letter agreeing to an overdraft. Still waiting for the cheque book and the list of DDs to be switched.

Keeps the Royal Mail in business I suppose.

I also applied for this account on Saturday and didn't get an email confirmation or anything. I haven't had anything in the post yet so I was also worried I hadn't submitted the aplication correctly or something (seems unlikely though because I'm sure I got a message saying it had been submitted). Have you had any further communication? I was half tempted to apply again incase my original application hadn't gone through but that might not be a good idea if it has.

Just be patient, you got a message stating it had been submitted, I'm going to apply for this soon and would only start worrying if I hadn't heard anything by 2 weeks.
