It does matter where your money goes, as for example if the most visited properties are NT rather than SNT, the SNT won't be paying for the upkeep wear and tear of those properties.

You are assuming that NT doesn't get any money from SNT when SNT members visit NT properties.

There's no suggestion in the post to which I replied that they do.

Come on you two, why have an argument! You are both right in your own way, but just remember what this website is all about - SAVING MONEY !! My wife & I stopped being members of the NT a few years ago, because they make NO concessions for Seniors. Both the Scottish & Welsh trusts do. Why is this, probably because NT's main source of income is from retired people. But I think they are missing out on loads of people who would join but feel they should not pay the full rate. If there is a saving to be had,why not go for it, then NT may change their "holier than though" attitude.

Fair enough, but until recently English Heritage offered concessions for those on low income, such as Income Support/ Job seekers allowance. They seem to have dropped this from what I can see on the website.

Retired folk may or may not have significant incomes, but those struggling on benefits do not. Neither organisations appears to embrace social inclusion.

NT menbership is worthwhile organisation, but expensive enough for most people with some disposable income.

I was an NT member for 15 years and only gave up as I'd visited everything within reason and didn't have time to drive further. The reason I posted the comment was the example of the YHA which has all but collapsed now - very few open over winter except to large groups. My point was that sometimes things go under if they're not directly supported and that may not be fully consistent with the largest money saving.

And my point was that you do not know what the financial arrangements between NT and SNT are. For all anybody knows NT may get a fee from SNT for each SNT member that goes through its doors, or it may get a lump sum from SNT, or it may get nothing.

Your post implied that it was the last circumstance - do you have some evidence for this?

My post implied nothing. As you're so exercised by this why don't you contact them, find out and let us know?

As you have had a lapse of memory let me remind you -

I am glad to know that you admit to expressing opinions on subjects without knowing the facts.

This is truly silly and I have to admit its the first experience for me on this forum. I usually don't bother with forums where this sort of pointless exchange goes on but as its only you I'll continue to browse the boards.

If you really need to know if there's a subsidy go find out and report - after all you have no evidence but you choose to assume there is otherwise my comments wouldn't bother you.

My original comment wasn't in reply to a post of yours so I see no point in continuing this.
