This is taken from the National Trust for Scotland website:

"Free car parking at The National Trust for Scotland sites when displaying your membership sticker. "

To me that suggests that it doesn't cover National Trust in England.

If you regularly visit National Trust land or properties please consider paying what you can afford.

They are a charity and perhaps we shouldn't be thinking about our wallets by considering moneysaving options on this occassion.

Remember, buying membership in person from a local representative in your area means more of the money goes to development in your region. Online membership means HQ gets more of the cash. e.g. if you live around The Lake district, buying membership in person will ensure more of your cash goes to towards the upkeep and development around there.

Bottom line, this is a charity.
The National Trust is a charity and is completely independent of Government. We rely for income on membership fees, donations and legacies, and revenue raised from our commercial operations.

Could we join one of the following (e.g. Manx is £22 one adult, £35 for two) and enjoy the roving facilities? It seems too good to be true! (so it probably won't work!)
    Does anyone know?
But reading greyster above perhaps not such a good thing to do to a charity!

Obviously Greyster is right about not ripping off a charity, but surely the offer of reduced membership is to encourage more people to take up membership and therefore boost income? So if more people join because of this post is it not a good thing?

I agree as I would never usually go to national trust places if it wasn't for the cheaper memberships as I don't visit them enough with my membership as it is as I don't have many close to me at all but it's good for the local one to get free parking and it's only a large forest that I go to

A few years ago I took advantage of a reduced membership offer (nts). I have renewed my membership every year since at full price.

I would not have considered joining if it wasn't for the offer - NTS have benefitted from this substantially.

bluesru5 - totally agree with you. I'm just making sure everyone is aware its a charity :)

Give what you can afford.. take whatever purchasing method is best for you. If you can afford it I highly recommend you sign up in person. They'll even refund your car park ticket on the day you signed up.

I take your point entirely Greyster, and well done for highlighting the NT's charity status. I used to visit several of the NT's properties around Manchester and Cheshire and they're all worth patronising/supporting.

Is the bottom line here not that you can save money and still do some good for a worthy cause?
